Focal has just introduced the Mu-so Hekla, a new all-in-one audio system designed to bring immersive, room-filling sound to your living room without needing a full surround sound setup. Named after Iceland’s active volcano Hekla, this compact unit is built to deliver Dolby Atmos, handle all your streaming needs, and fit seamlessly into your everyday home setup — whether you’re watching movies, gaming, or just listening to music.

It’s launching first in South Korea and China starting November 6, with a wider international release coming in early 2026. When it lands, it’ll be available through the “Focal Powered by Naim” network of dealers at $3,600 USD or $4,000 CAD.

What sets the Mu-so Hekla apart is how it handles spatial audio. It supports Dolby Atmos up to 7.1.2 channels — impressive for a single-box speaker — and it does it using 15 built-in drivers placed around the front, sides, and top of the cabinet. That includes three dedicated woofers, midrange drivers, tweeters, and full-range units on the sides and top to bounce audio around your space.

All of this is driven by a 660-watt Class D amplifier system, with enough output to comfortably fill rooms up to 430 square feet. If you want to take things further, there’s an RCA output so you can hook up a dedicated subwoofer too.

To keep everything sounding clean and balanced, the system uses Focal’s ADAPT room calibration feature, which automatically adjusts the output based on your room and setup.

The Mu-so Hekla also includes custom-designed audio modes called “Sphere Music” and “Sphere Movie,” which are available through the Focal & Naim app. These sound profiles are powered by Naim’s Pulse Platform — a fast, dual-core processing engine that helps the speaker adapt to different types of content in real-time.

Focal says these modes combine Beamforming and Crosstalk Cancellation tech, which basically means it’s working to deliver more precise placement of sound in 3D space — so effects, vocals, and music don’t just blend together, but feel like they’re coming from all around you.

Whether you’re playing music from your phone, streaming from a service, or syncing up with a multiroom system, the Mu-so Hekla has it covered. It supports a bunch of platforms — AirPlay, Google Cast, Bluetooth, and UPnP — and works with Tidal, Spotify, Qobuz, and even QQ Music in China.

You can control everything using the Focal & Naim app (iOS and Android), a compatible smartwatch, your favorite voice assistant, or just walk up to the speaker and use the built-in volume dial, which is designed to look and feel like a luxury watch crown.

Need to play the same music across multiple rooms? The app’s Multiroom feature lets you sync up to 32 Focal & Naim systems at once.

Focal didn’t just focus on the audio side — the design is also a big part of the package. The Mu-so Hekla is built from brushed and sandblasted aluminum, with clean lines and a sculptural shape that’s meant to blend into modern interiors. It’s compact enough to sit on a console or shelf (about 39 inches wide), and includes a perforated grille and heat sink that doubles as a Wi-Fi antenna housing.

That heat sink on the back isn’t just for show either — it keeps the internal components cool while maintaining a clean, cable-friendly setup.

For context, the Mu‑so Hekla builds on the legacy of the Naim Mu‑so 2nd Generation (read our review), which helped define what a premium all‑in‑one music system could be. While the Mu‑so 2nd Gen is primarily a stereo‑focused design built around six drivers and 450 watts of power, the new Hekla takes the concept much further — both in scale and purpose.

It’s a full‑blown immersive Dolby Atmos system with 15 drivers, 660 watts of amplification, and room‑adaptive tuning that supports everything from 2.0 stereo playback to 7.1.2 configurations. In short, the Mu‑so 2nd Gen remains a fantastic choice for music lovers in smaller spaces, while the Hekla is aimed at those who want cinema‑grade, spatial sound from a single box.

The Mu-so Hekla will be showcased at CES 2026 in Las Vegas (January 6–9) and ISE in Barcelona (February 3–6), where Focal and Naim plan to show off its capabilities to a global audience. It’s designed for people who want high-end audio without all the clutter of multiple boxes, amps, and cables — and while the price tag puts it firmly in the premium category, it could appeal to those who want something simpler than traditional home theater setups.

Whether you're deep into Atmos movie nights or just want your playlists to sound a whole lot better, Mu-so Hekla looks like it’s aiming to be your go-to, do-it-all speaker — no receiver required.
