This Tiny SVS Subwoofer Wants to Fix Small-Room Bass

The new SVS 3000 Micro R|Evolution focuses on a familiar challenge: how to get meaningful low-end performance from a small box.

Most people aren’t building out dedicated home theater rooms with space for massive subwoofers. Systems today are more likely to live in apartments, shared living spaces, or multipurpose rooms where every inch matters. That’s the reality SVS is targeting with the new 3000 Micro R|Evolution, a compact subwoofer that keeps the small footprint of the original 3000 Micro (read our full review) but updates just about everything inside.

Priced at $999.99, the 3000 Micro R|Evolution replaces one of SVS’s most popular compact subs and pulls in technology from the larger 3000 R|Evolution lineup. The goal here is pretty clear: deliver deeper, more controlled bass from a cabinet that won’t dominate the room.

At first glance, the size hasn’t really changed. You’re still looking at a cabinet that’s roughly 11 inches in each direction, which keeps placement flexible. The upgrades are all under the hood.

Here’s a quick look at what’s new:

  • Dual opposing 9-inch active drivers (up from 8-inch in the previous model)
  • 1,200 watts continuous power, with more than 4,000 watts peak
  • A 295MHz DSP handling tuning, protection, and system behavior
  • Balanced XLR and standard RCA inputs for flexible setup
  • App-based control with EQ, presets, and room adjustments

One of the more interesting design choices is the dual opposing driver layout. The sub uses two side-firing 9-inch drivers that move in opposite directions. The idea is to cancel out the physical forces inside the cabinet, which helps reduce vibration. In simple terms, less shaking cabinet, more energy going into actual bass output.

That’s especially important in a compact design like this. Smaller enclosures tend to struggle more with unwanted resonance, so controlling that becomes a bigger part of the equation.

SVS is also sticking with fully active drivers instead of using passive radiators, which are common in smaller subs. The company’s take is that active drivers offer tighter, more predictable bass, rather than the looser “one-note” sound that can sometimes show up in compact designs chasing bigger output.

On paper, the 3000 Micro R|Evolution is rated down to 20Hz, which is notable for something this size. That doesn’t mean it’s going to replace a large ported subwoofer in a big room, but it does suggest this isn’t just a light-duty add-on for background listening either.

Power comes from a redesigned R|Evolution amplifier rated at 1,200 watts continuous and over 4,000 watts peak. It uses a Class D design with discrete MOSFET output stages, along with a switch mode power supply that keeps voltage stable even if your power conditions fluctuate. The technical details are dense, but the takeaway is that the system is built to stay controlled even when pushed.

Where things get more interesting is the DSP. SVS is using a 295MHz Analog Devices processor that handles everything from driver behavior to thermal management. It’s constantly monitoring what’s going on and making adjustments in real time to keep performance consistent.

It also ties directly into the SVS Subwoofer Control app, which is how most users will actually interact with the sub.

Through the app, you can adjust:

  • Volume, crossover (low-pass filter), and phase
  • Polarity and room gain compensation
  • Up to six parametric EQ bands
  • Three custom presets for different listening setups

There’s also an Auto Room EQ feature planned as a future update, which could simplify setup even further for people who don’t want to manually dial things in.

The cabinet itself sticks with a sealed design, built from thick MDF with internal bracing. That’s a typical approach when the goal is tighter, more controlled bass rather than maximum output. Finishes include piano gloss black and white, which should help it blend into most setups without drawing too much attention.

What SVS is really trying to do here is reduce the usual tradeoffs that come with compact subwoofers. Smaller models are easier to live with, but they often give up output or control. Larger subs deliver more impact, but they’re harder to place and harder to justify in shared spaces.

The 3000 Micro R|Evolution sits somewhere in between. It’s designed for setups where space matters just as much as performance, think apartments, living rooms, or two-channel systems that need proper low-end support without turning into a full home theater project.

That also means it’s probably not the right fit for everyone. If you’re trying to pressurize a large dedicated theater room, a bigger subwoofer will still make more sense. But for a lot of real-world setups, this kind of balance is exactly what’s missing.

The SVS 3000 Micro R|Evolution is available for pre-order now and is expected to ship starting April 30, 2026. It’s priced at $999.99 and will be offered in piano gloss black and white finishes, with SVS backing it with a five-year warranty and a 45-day in-home trial.
