LG’s New Sound Suite Uses Dolby FlexConnect to Do What Sonos Can’t

LG is betting on Dolby FlexConnect with its new Sound Suite, a modular audio system built to adapt to real living rooms rather than forcing users into rigid speaker layouts.

LG is stepping into the world of wireless surround sound with Sound Suite, a new audio system built around Dolby Atmos FlexConnect that gives you the freedom to place speakers wherever they fit best—no soundbar or receiver required.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because Sonos has been offering flexible wireless setups for a while now. But LG is taking a different approach: Sound Suite uses real-time calibration to adjust audio based on your room layout and speaker placement, giving you a true Dolby Atmos experience that adapts to your space, not the other way around.

Set to debut at CES 2026, Sound Suite isn’t just one soundbar or speaker—it’s a full mix-and-match lineup. You can start with the new H7 soundbar, or build your system around wireless M5 and M7 speakers and the W7 subwoofer. If you're working with a wall-mounted TV or an open living room, the idea is simple: fewer setup hassles, more immersive sound, and room to expand when you’re ready.

“Together with Dolby, we’ve made immersive audio flexible for every home, LG Sound Suite is a testament to our shared focus on audio innovation,” said Lee Jeong-seok, head of the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company’s Audio Business Division. “LG Sound Suite combines Dolby Atmos FlexConnect with its wireless modular design and AI-driven tuning, so consumers can create the system they want and enjoy cinematic sound from any seat.”

At the center of the system is the H7 soundbar, LG’s first to support Dolby Atmos FlexConnect. It packs 20 drivers, including up-firing and side-firing speakers, four built-in woofers, and eight passive radiators—all squeezed into a slim profile. That gives you a 3.1.2 setup out of the box.

Then there are the M5 and M7 wireless speakers. The M5 is a smaller, mono speaker with a tweeter, woofer, and up-firing driver for height effects. The M7 is bigger, with a stereo setup, more power, and a beefier up-firing unit. Both can act as part of a surround system or work on their own as wireless music speakers.

Finally, there’s the W7 subwoofer, and it already appeared on Amazon for $599. It’s wireless, has an 8-inch driver, and goes down to 25.9Hz. It can sit upright or flat, so you can tuck it behind furniture or place it in a corner depending on your space.

What makes all these pieces work together is Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, which automatically calibrates each speaker based on where it’s placed. You don’t need a receiver, you don’t have to line everything up symmetrically, and you can start small and upgrade later.

The Sound Suite is built to scale, and LG says there are up to 27 different ways to configure it. For example:

  • Start with just the H7 soundbar.
  • Add a W7 subwoofer and a couple of M5 speakers for a compact 7.1.5 setup.
  • Go big with four M7 speakers and the W7 to reach a massive 13.1.7-channel Dolby Atmos system—more than even Samsung’s flagship soundbars offer today.

You can connect up to four wireless speakers and one subwoofer to either a compatible LG TV or the H7 soundbar. And because the calibration is automatic, you can place those speakers wherever they fit best—on shelves, side tables, or corners.

“Dolby and LG are unlocking a new level of audio flexibility for anyone who wants to enjoy better sound with Dolby Atmos,” said John Couling, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at Dolby Laboratories. “Whether your speakers sit on a shelf or are tucked into a corner, Dolby Atmos FlexConnect fits naturally into any home without the complexity of traditional systems. We’re excited for consumers to experience this new level of audio flexibility and performance.”

LG says the speakers also support AirPlay, Google Cast, and Spotify Connect, so they’re just as useful for music streaming as they are for movie night.

The H7 soundbar uses LG’s Alpha 11 Gen 3 processor, which adds some extra tricks. That includes audio upmixing (like turning stereo into surround), recognizing what type of content you’re watching, and adjusting the sound accordingly. It also separates different sound elements—dialogue, background effects, etc.—for clearer playback.

If you own or plan to buy a 2026 LG OLED TV, some models will have FlexConnect built in. That means you could skip the soundbar altogether and connect M5 or M7 speakers directly to the TV. And if you’ve already got a 2025 G5 or C5, LG says a firmware update will bring FlexConnect to those as well.

TCL was the first company to roll out Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, but LG’s version offers more flexibility. TCL systems max out at four wireless speakers total, including the subwoofer. LG allows four speakers plus a sub, and potentially even more if future updates allow for it.

Compared to Sonos, which is the go-to brand for wireless multi-room audio, LG Sound Suite supports more Atmos channels and gives you more options for where to place your speakers. However, like Sonos, you’re locked into one brand—no mixing and matching speakers from different manufacturers.

While the Sound Suite should work great for movies and music, latency might be an issue for gamers. FlexConnect adds some delay due to the wireless calibration process, and LG hasn’t confirmed whether this will be low enough for console gaming. That’s something to keep an eye on if you’re planning to hook it up to a PS5 or Xbox.

LG hasn’t shared exact pricing or release dates yet (aside from the W7 subwoofer), but we expect more details at CES 2026. TCL’s FlexConnect Z100 speakers sell for $300 each, so if LG lands in the same ballpark—or higher—a full-blown system with four M7 speakers, the H7 soundbar, and W7 sub could easily pass the $2,500 mark.

Still, LG’s approach gives you room to start small and build up over time. And the fact that it works with or without a soundbar makes it more adaptable than many traditional home theater systems.

LG Sound Suite feels like a big step toward making immersive surround sound more accessible—and more flexible—for everyday rooms. You don’t need a perfectly shaped living room or a full receiver-based setup to enjoy Atmos sound. If you're working with a new LG TV or a mix of components, this modular system could offer a new kind of freedom for home theater audio. Just be ready for the price tag if you're going all-in.
