If you’ve ever wanted the clarity and imaging of a stereo setup but didn’t want to deal with receivers, speaker wires, and a maze of settings, Cambridge Audio’s latest speaker series might have your attention. The British audio brand just unveiled the L/R Series at CES 2026, a new lineup of active stereo speakers that aims to bring high-quality sound into real-world spaces—whether that’s a large living room, a small apartment, or even your desk.
The lineup includes three models—L/R X, L/R M, and L/R S—each with its own take on size, power, and connectivity. What they all share is a plug-and-play philosophy. You don’t need a separate amp or streamer. You just connect, play, and listen.
Let’s break down what makes each one tick, and how they might fit into different listening setups.

Cambridge Audio designed the L/R Series as a family of self-contained stereo speakers with distinct use cases:
Each model comes as a stereo pair with onboard amplification, so there’s no need to add a receiver or external components. That alone makes them stand out from traditional hi-fi systems.
The L/R X is the flagship model, designed for people who want serious sound but don’t want to give up space or design in the process.

Each speaker is powered by 400 watts of Class D amplification (that’s 800 watts per pair), driving two 5-inch woofers and Cambridge Audio’s newly developed 28mm Torus tweeter. The tweeter design includes a unique torus-shaped rear chamber that helps reduce distortion and improve high-frequency detail. Passive radiators on each side of the cabinet push bass response down into the mid-30Hz range—surprisingly deep for bookshelf speakers.
But L/R X isn’t just about volume. It also includes a 64-bit digital signal path and Cambridge’s DynamEQ system, which automatically adjusts bass and treble depending on your volume level. So whether you’re listening late at night or turning things up for a party, the sound stays balanced.

And when it comes to sources, L/R X is ready for just about anything. It features:
Control is handled through the StreamMagic app or an included Bluetooth LE remote, which features shortcut buttons for input selection and EQ presets.
Pricing starts at $2,299, or $2,399 for the Real Walnut finish, and availability is expected in summer 2026.
Need something a little smaller but still want the full stereo streaming experience? That’s where the L/R M comes in. It keeps much of the same tech as the X, just scaled down to fit into tighter spaces.
Each speaker in the M pair uses 150 watts of Class D amplification, for a total of 300 watts across the system. Inside are dual 4-inch woofers and passive radiators that help produce bass that feels fuller than you might expect. You still get the Torus tweeter, 64-bit signal processing, and DynamEQ.

Connectivity is nearly identical to the L/R X, with the same streaming platform (StreamMagic), and support for a wide range of sources. You still get HDMI eARC, phono, Bluetooth, USB, and more.
The biggest difference is output and footprint. If you're outfitting a bedroom, small living room, or apartment, the M may be the sweet spot. It sounds big without taking over the room.
Pricing is $1,599, or $1,699 with the Real Walnut finish. Cambridge says it will launch in late summer 2026.
At the most compact and affordable end of the spectrum is the L/R S. This one strips things back—no streaming platform, no app. Instead, it focuses on simplicity and plug-and-play ease.

Each speaker has 50 watts of amplification, totaling 100 watts across the pair. There’s a 21mm hard-dome tweeter and a 3-inch woofer in each, plus a rear bass port that helps the system punch above its size. DynamEQ is still present, keeping things balanced at different volumes.
For connections, the L/R S includes:

There’s no Wi-Fi or app required. Just pair your phone or plug in your laptop and go. It also comes with a Bluetooth LE remote for input switching and EQ control.
The L/R S is especially suited for work-from-home setups, bedrooms, or anywhere space is tight and simplicity matters.
It starts at $549, or $599 in Real Walnut. Expect it to arrive in spring 2026.
All three models were designed by Ged Martin, the same Red Dot award-winning designer behind other Cambridge Audio gear. They all share a similar design language—geometric lines, a “floating” base, and white LED underlighting on the X and M models (which you can turn off if you prefer something more discreet).

Each speaker also has a bright orange accent on the tweeter dome—a small detail that ties the series together visually.
Color options include:
Cambridge is also planning to release a tilt stand for the L/R S, aimed at improving imaging when placed on a desk.
The nice thing about this lineup is how clearly it breaks down by space and use:

All three offer stereo imaging, direct speaker-to-speaker playback, and thoughtful connectivity. You don’t need to match these to a specific amp or streamer. Everything is included, and you can get started with just a power outlet and a source.

Cambridge Audio’s new L/R Series is clearly aimed at people who want better stereo sound without diving into the world of separate amps, streamers, and cables. If you're building your first system or downsizing from something more complex, there's an option here that keeps things simple without losing the essence of what makes stereo audio enjoyable.
Each model does things a little differently, but they all follow the same idea: sound that’s easy to live with, in spaces that don’t revolve around gear.
