French audio company Elipson has just added two new active speakers to its Horus series. Up until now, the Horus line was all about passive models, which require an external amp. These new versions — the Horus 6B Active BT bookshelf speaker and the Horus 11F Active BT floorstander — are designed to make things simpler by including the amplification inside the speaker itself, along with plenty of modern connections.

If you’ve ever dealt with passive speakers, you know they need an external amplifier or receiver. That adds both cost and extra boxes to your setup. The Horus Active BT models skip that step. Each speaker has 2 x 50 watts of built-in stereo amplification plus a bass reflex enclosure to boost low-end performance.

On the driver side, both models use a glass fibre–reinforced cellulose pulp mid-bass unit along with a 25 mm silk dome tweeter powered by a neodymium magnet. The floorstanding 11F Active BT has two 130 mm mid-bass drivers for extra punch, while the 6B Active BT sticks to one for a more compact profile.

The specs highlight where the two models differ:

  • Horus 6B Active BT (bookshelf): Covers a frequency range of 55 Hz to 22 kHz (±3 dB).
  • Horus 11F Active BT (floorstander): Reaches deeper, from 40 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB).

In plain terms, the floorstanders dig into lower bass, while the bookshelf model stretches a bit further into the highs. Both are built to work well with a wide variety of gear thanks to input sensitivity figures of 500 mV for Aux and 7.5 mV for the phono input.

What makes these speakers especially flexible is the range of connections they offer. You can plug in just about anything:

  • USB Audio (24-bit/96 kHz): Plug into a PC or Mac for direct playback, no external DAC required.
  • MM Phono Input: Hook up a turntable directly without needing a separate preamp.
  • HDMI ARC: Connect to a TV with a single cable for cleaner sound.
  • Coaxial & Optical Inputs (24-bit/192 kHz): For digital sources that support higher-resolution audio.
  • Aux Input: A classic analog option for older devices.
  • Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD: Stream wirelessly from your phone, tablet, or laptop with better-than-basic Bluetooth quality.

This range means the Horus Active BT speakers can slot into lots of different setups — whether it’s improving TV audio, building a turntable system, or doubling as desktop speakers for a computer.

On the design side, Elipson has kept things consistent with the rest of the Horus family. Both models are available in three finishes — Light Wood with Beige, Walnut with Dark Grey, and Black with Carbon. The look is simple and neutral, so the speakers should blend into most living spaces without drawing too much attention.

The appeal here is pretty wide. Vinyl fans get a plug-and-play solution thanks to the phono input. The USB connection makes the bookshelf model a neat option for anyone who wants a serious desktop speaker system. And if you’re mainly looking to improve your TV audio without dealing with a full surround setup, the HDMI ARC input covers that as well.

Elipson’s Horus Active BT speakers take what the passive Horus line was already doing and package it into all-in-one models that don’t need extra boxes to run. Between the built-in amps, the variety of inputs, and Bluetooth streaming, they’re set up to handle just about any modern listening situation. Whether you’re short on space, setting up vinyl, or just want better TV sound, the Horus Active BT speakers give you a straightforward way to get there.

The smaller Horus 6B Active BT bookshelf speakers are already available for £399 (about $530). The larger Horus 11F Active BT floorstanders will arrive in October 2025, priced at £899 (about $1,200).
