Elipson has refreshed its well-known Planet L speakers with a new Performance edition, bringing upgraded internals while keeping the signature spherical design that has turned heads for over a decade. This updated version aims to refine sound quality, boost power, and address some of the original model’s weaker points—all while maintaining its unique aesthetic appeal.
If you’ve seen the original Planet L, you’ll recognize the Planet L Performance instantly. The distinctive globe-shaped cabinet isn’t just for show—it helps reduce unwanted vibrations and sound distortions, making for a cleaner audio experience. Whether placed on a stand, mounted on a wall, or even suspended from the ceiling, these speakers are designed to fit into a variety of setups.
Elipson has also expanded the color options, giving buyers even more ways to match their décor. The matte finishes include white, black, blue, and beige, while the glossy finishes come in black, white, and red. And if you’re after something a little more premium, the Gold Edition adds a touch of luxury with finishes in white, black, burgundy, and dark green.
While the design hasn’t changed, the Planet L Performance packs a series of upgrades inside, all aimed at delivering a more refined and immersive sound. Here’s what’s different:
Elipson says these upgrades should result in more detail, better bass control, and a wider soundstage—key areas where the original model was sometimes criticized.
One of the biggest technical changes is in power handling. The Planet L Performance can now handle 100W RMS, up from 60W on the original model. It can also pair with higher-powered amplifiers (up to 120W, compared to 80W previously), making it more versatile for different audio setups.
Despite the internal changes, Elipson has kept compatibility with existing Planet L accessories. If you already own the original wall mounts, stands, or ceiling suspension kits, they’ll work just fine with the new model—meaning you won’t need to buy all-new mounting gear.
With upgraded internals, better power handling, and a fresh selection of finishes, these speakers seem like a strong option for those who want a distinctive-looking speaker without sacrificing performance. Whether these changes fully address the original’s limitations remains to be seen, but for fans of the Planet L, the Performance edition looks like a promising evolution.
The Elipson Planet L Performance speakers will be available from March 24, priced at £1,200 ($1,550) per pair.
