The WiiM Sound Lite Is Here, and It’s Taking On Sonos and HomePod

The $229 WiiM Sound Lite just launched with hi-res streaming and smart features. Is it a real rival to the Sonos Era 100 or HomePod?

WiiM has just announced a new smart speaker, and it’s aimed directly at the Sonos and HomePod crowd — but at a much lower price. The WiiM Sound Lite is a more affordable take on the original WiiM Sound speaker, offering the same hi-res streaming and multi-room features without the built-in screen or included remote. It goes on sale December 25 for $229 / £229 / €269, just in time for anyone looking to build (or expand) a streaming speaker setup over the holidays.

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because the Sound Lite shares a lot with the full-sized WiiM Sound. It’s the same size, shape, and internal audio setup — but without the 1.8-inch touchscreen and without the WiiM Voice Remote in the box. Those are sold separately if you want them, but the idea here is to cut the price and focus on what most users actually need: strong audio performance, flexible streaming, and app-based control.

That makes the Sound Lite $70 cheaper than the full model — and quite a bit more affordable than the Sonos Era 100 or Apple’s HomePod 2, both of which it’s clearly positioned to compete with.

Despite the lower price tag, WiiM hasn’t scaled back on the internals. The Sound Lite still packs a 4-inch long-throw woofer and dual 1-inch silk dome tweeters, powered by an amp that can deliver up to 100W of peak output. It supports high-resolution playback up to 24-bit/192kHz, putting it on par with more premium models from other brands — at least on paper.

Whether you're using it as a single speaker, a stereo pair, or plugging it into a 5.1 WiiM home theater setup, the Sound Lite is designed to adapt. It works with other WiiM components like the Sound, Amp, Streamers, and the Sub Pro, making it easy to drop into a bigger multi-room or multi-channel system.

With no screen or remote, everything runs through the WiiM Home app, which acts as the central hub for streaming, EQ control, grouping speakers, and more. It also supports voice commands via Alexa or Google Assistant, so you’re not locked out of hands-free control.

For streaming, WiiM covers most of the major platforms: Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Chromecast, Alexa Cast, DLNA, and even Roon (coming soon). The only notable omission is Apple AirPlay, which could be a deal-breaker for some Apple users, but the wide range of casting protocols still makes it very flexible.

The Sound Lite supports WiiM’s AIRoomFit system, which lets your phone analyze the room and automatically adjust the speaker’s output for better results. You can also take full control of the sound yourself using the app’s 24 EQ presets, 10-band graphic EQ, and even a parametric EQ for more advanced tuning.

It’s a lot of customization for a speaker at this price — and a feature set that’s competitive with higher-end gear from Sonos and Apple.

The Sound Lite includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, Ethernet, and even a 3.5mm analog input, which gives you options whether you’re streaming wirelessly or plugging in a legacy audio source. This mix of wireless and wired connections isn’t always a given in speakers at this level, and it helps the Sound Lite slot into different setups without friction.

If you’re looking for a smart speaker with solid audio quality, wide streaming support, and app-based control — but don’t want to pay for a screen you may not use — the Sound Lite could be an appealing alternative to the Sonos Era 100 or HomePod.

It won’t be for everyone. There’s no AirPlay, no HDMI-ARC, and no voice remote unless you buy it separately. But for $229, it covers the most important bases: good sound, flexible setup options, and a user-friendly app experience. For multi-room audio fans or anyone building out a more affordable home theater system, it’s a well-timed release.

The WiiM Sound Lite launches on December 25, 2025, and will be available from Amazon and select retailers. It comes in black or white, and is priced at $229 / £229 / €269. The WiiM Voice Remote 2 (if you want to add it later) is sold separately for $39 / £39.
