The team at WiiM is back with something a little different this time. After making a name for itself with ultra-affordable hi-fi streamers like the WiiM Mini and Amp, the brand is now going all-in with its first standalone speaker: the WiiM Sound.
If you’ve been following WiiM’s growing audio ecosystem, this launch shouldn’t come as a total surprise. We first covered the WiiM Sound back in May when it was announced alongside the WiiM Amp Ultra and Sub Pro at 2025 High End Munich. Now, several months later, we have more details about price, release date, and a few new specs, giving us a clearer picture of what this speaker can (and can’t) do.
The WiiM Sound officially launches October 28, 2025, for $299 USD (or £299 in the UK), and will come in black or white finishes. That price lands it right between the Sonos Era 100 and Apple’s full-size HomePod, which seems very intentional. WiiM clearly wants to tempt people who want something more flexible than a Sonos but less locked-in than an Apple device.

At its core, the WiiM Sound is a hi-res smart speaker built for streaming. It can handle 24-bit/192 kHz audio over Wi-Fi 6E or Ethernet and even works as a Bluetooth 5.3 receiver. So, whether you’re playing FLACs from a NAS drive or streaming Spotify, it’s meant to handle both with ease.
A few standout features include:
Under the hood, it packs a 4-inch long-throw woofer and two full-range tweeters, powered by roughly 100 watts total output. It’s about the size of a small coffee maker (146 × 146 × 193 mm) and weighs around 2.5 kg.

For all its features, there are a few things missing that buyers should know about. First, no AirPlay 2 support, which is surprising given how Apple-friendly WiiM’s other devices are. That could be a dealbreaker for people deep in the iPhone or Mac ecosystem.
There’s also no HDMI ARC, so you can’t hook it directly to a TV, and it doesn’t include built-in microphones for Alexa or Google Assistant. You’ll need an external smart speaker if you want voice control.
Those might sound like small issues, but they’re worth noting if you want something that doubles as a TV sound system or smart-home hub.

At $299, WiiM is targeting listeners who want a flexible, high-resolution streaming speaker but don’t want to get locked into a single ecosystem. If you’ve already got a WiiM Amp, Streamer Pro, or Amp Ultra, this fits right in — it can act as a standalone speaker or part of a multiroom setup.
But it’s also trying to grab attention from Sonos users. The Sonos Era 100 currently sells for $219, supports AirPlay 2, and offers a slick app experience. The WiiM Sound, on the other hand, leans into technical control and customization — EQs, room correction, and flexible connectivity — rather than seamless app integration.
The WiiM Sound is a bit of a milestone for the brand. Until now, WiiM made mostly streamers and amps that connected to existing speakers. This is its first self-contained system, a sign the company wants to expand into complete smart-audio solutions, not just components.
And it may not stop here. WiiM has already hinted at a smaller, cheaper “Sound Lite” version (without the color display), though it hasn’t announced a date or price yet.

Should you be excited? That depends on what you need. If you’re after something that plays hi-res audio, fits into a multiroom system, and gives you serious control over sound, the WiiM Sound makes a lot of sense.
If you live entirely in Apple’s world or want built-in voice control, it might not be the best fit. But for everyone else — especially people who like to tweak their sound or mix-and-match audio gear — this could be an intriguing new option in the $300 range.
WiiM is calling the Sound its “smartest” product yet, but what really matters is how it sounds once people get it in their homes. With shipments beginning at the end of October, we won’t have to wait long to find out. It will be available for purchase at Amazon and WiiM's official website.
