Party speakers have a habit of going in one of two directions: either they try to become a rolling nightclub with flashing lights and gimmicks, or they focus on brute-force volume and forget that people also need to carry the thing, charge it, and use it somewhere other than an open field. The new Soundboks Mix looks like an attempt to land somewhere in the middle.
SOUNDBOKS has introduced the Mix as a more accessible, portable addition to its lineup, priced at $799. It still follows the company’s familiar formula of high output, rugged construction, and battery-powered operation, but this model seems aimed less at all-out chaos and more at people who want something loud, durable, and easier to move from place to place.
That means the target use case is pretty obvious: tailgates, pre-games, backyard get-togethers, beach hangs, locker room celebrations, and the kind of casual outdoor meetups where a regular Bluetooth speaker starts sounding small the moment more than ten people show up.

"Amongst the inconsistent, one constant remains: everyday life requires a speaker to sound great, whatever the situation," said Jesper Theil Thomsen, SOUNDBOKS CEO. "Soundboks Mix is perfectly placed to do just that, balancing audio quality, power, battery life, durability, and portability."
We should also mention that we’ve been big Soundboks fans for a while. We reviewed both the Soundboks 4 and Soundboks Go two years ago, and the Soundboks 4 earned our Highly Recommended award. So this is a brand we’ve followed with real interest, especially because it has generally taken a more utility-driven approach than many competitors in this category.
At the center of the Mix is a speaker system built around a 10-inch woofer, a 0.5-inch tweeter, and dual 72-watt Class D amplification, with SOUNDBOKS claiming a maximum output of 121 dB. For context, that is an enormous amount of volume for something marketed as portable. It is the kind of number that makes sense for open-air gatherings and noisy environments, but it is also the kind of number that should come with a reminder to use some restraint. Just because it can go that loud does not mean your ears, or your neighbors, are asking for the full experience.

What matters more is that Soundboks says the Mix is designed to keep its composure as volume rises, rather than simply getting harsher and more aggressive. That will likely matter more in real-world use than the raw decibel figure itself. A party speaker that sounds reasonably balanced at moderate volume is often more useful than one that exists mainly to win a spec-sheet shouting match.
The Soundboks Mix also leans hard into portability, at least by big party-speaker standards. It weighs about 9.7 kg and includes a single carry handle, plus support for optional accessories like a shoulder strap or backpack-style carrying system. Nobody is going to confuse this for a compact travel speaker, but it is clearly meant to be moved by one person without turning setup into a group project.

A lot of the practical appeal comes down to a few core features:
That battery setup may be one of the most useful things here. Party speakers are often sold as go-anywhere products, but once the battery dies, the promise falls apart fast. With the Mix, the removable battery can be swapped in seconds, which makes a lot more sense for outdoor use, longer events, or anyone who actually plans to use this far from a wall outlet.

The app-based controls add some flexibility too. You can choose between sound modes like Bass, Indoor, and Outdoor, and there are EQ adjustments available through the companion app. That matters because a speaker like this is probably going to live multiple lives. One day it is filling a backyard. The next day it is parked in a garage, at a cookout, or dragged out to a park meetup. Giving users a few ways to shape the sound is smarter than assuming every situation needs the exact same tuning.
Physically, the Mix sticks with the industrial Soundboks look. The cabinet uses impact-resistant PC/ABS material, and the speaker gets rubberized ball corners designed to handle bumps, drops, and general party abuse. SOUNDBOKS also says the electronics have an IP65-rated protective coating, which means resistance to dust and water exposure. That does not make it something you should leave out in a downpour or toss in a pool, but it should be better suited to real outdoor use than a lot of lifestyle-focused alternatives.
"The party speaker market is one-dimensional, forcing a choice between power and portability. With Soundboks Mix, we've eliminated the need to choose between the two," said Thomsen. "This speaker strikes a perfect balance without compromise, offering a level of versatility unlike any other. We didn't just make this for hosting and partying - Soundboks Mix was designed to fill your everyday life with better sounding music."

A few things are worth noting before anyone assumes this is trying to do everything. The Mix appears to stay away from features that are common on some mass-market party speakers:
That is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, some buyers will probably see it as a plus. The Mix looks less interested in novelty and more interested in being a loud, durable wireless speaker that can survive frequent use outside the house.

Technical Specifications:
The Soundboks Mix is available now for $799 at Amazon. On paper, it looks like a speaker built for people who actually need portability, battery endurance, and high output, not just a product trying to look wild on a retail shelf. Whether that makes it the right buy will depend on how often you really need festival-level volume, but at least the Mix seems built around problems real users actually have.
