  • Connor has an intense passion for monitors, TVs, & VR. He has been working with tech for over a decade, and has extensive experience testing displays.

The G6 is LG's latest OLED flagship TV, and because of that, it arrives with exactly the kind of hardware I would expect from a top-end display in 2026. It uses LG's latest glossy panel for anti-reflective performance and ambient light handling, and their latest four-layer OLED panel, which means improved brightness and improved color at the same time.

When you add LG's latest processor into the mix, this becomes more than just another yearly OLED refresh. The processor brings far better performance for banding and diagonal dithering. This is a big deal as what separates a good OLED from a truly high-end one, is not always about peak brightness alone.

Often the most important aspect is the way the TV handles the hardest parts of the image: color gradients, near-black detail, high-brightness HDR highlights, and the subtle processing that keeps an image from looking rough or noisy.

In my opinion, the G6 is the most advanced OLED panel LG has ever produced, and at its best, it creates some of the most wowing HDR imagery I have ever seen on a display. It also comes with four HDMI 2.1 ports, so you can hook up just about anything you would need, and it supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG. It does not support Dolby Vision 2 sadly.

The issue is the price. At around $3,400 for the 65-inch version, with a five-year panel warranty for that size at least, the G6 has to live up to very high expectations to command such a price. And does it? The answer is complicated.

TL;DR

The LG G6 is one of the brightest and most impressive OLED TVs I have tested, and in many ways it feels like LG's most advanced display yet. It has a new four-layer OLED panel, a clearer glossy finish, excellent ambient light handling, stronger color than older OLEDs, improved processing for banding and dithering, infinite OLED contrast, excellent off-angle viewing compared to Mini LED, and gaming performance that is among the fastest I have ever measured.

At its best, the G6 produces incredible HDR impact and highlight detail, especially compared to last year's G5 in very bright 4,000-nit HDR content. However, my unit also had some issues that keep me from calling it perfect. HDR could show near-black shadow detail crush in some dark content, Game Optimizer had worse HDR color than Filmmaker Mode, and PC HDR was not getting the correct brightness information from Windows during my testing.

I still love the TV, and I would not have buyer's remorse if I already bought one, but at around $3,400, LG needs to make firmware fixes before I would call this an endgame OLED.

Testing Methodology

I measure displays using a Klein K10-A Colorimeter & corrections are created using a Colorimetry CR-250 Spectroradiameter in Calman Ultimate using a custom 40 point test. Patterns are sent via a Video Forge Pro 8K pattern generator at 3840x2160 60Hz in a 10% Window.

I also use an Nvidia LDAT (Latency Display Analyzer Tool) for measuring click to photon (6000+ tests averaged) as well as display latency, a SM208 Screen Luminance Meter, and a Sony Cinema Line FX3 mirrorless video camera. Plus years of display testing experience.

The most important spec story here is not just one number. Its the combination of a much brighter OLED panel, a glossy finish, better processing, four HDMI 2.1 ports, and enough gaming performance to make this feel like a display that can serve both home theater and PC gaming roles. That matters because the LG G6 is not priced like a casual living room TV. It is priced like a premium flagship that needs to be excellent across almost every use case.

Color, & Accuracy

Starting with accuracy, my unit was excellent in SDR. Thats important because SDR is still a major part of real-world viewing, whether you are watching YouTube, cable, older movies, or normal streaming content. HDR is where things became more complicated. It certainly has incredible, bright HDR imagery that leads to some of the most impactful colors I've seen, but its not perfect.

The Short version

The short version is that SDR was excellent on my unit, HDR was mostly very good, and the new panel clearly improves overall color and HDR capability versus older OLEDs. The LG G6 is extremely bright for an OLED, the color performance is strong, and the processing improvements to banding and dithering are a real advantage.

The main concern is near-black HDR shadow detail crush, plus the current gaming-related problems with Game Optimizer color and PC HDR brightness reporting. None of those problems make the LG G6 a bad TV, but they do keep it from feeling fully polished at launch-level pricing.

Brightness & HDR Impact

Brightness is one of the biggest reasons the LG G6 feels so impressive. In both my window testing and in real HDR content, this was one of the brightest TVs I have ever measured. That alone does not automatically make a TV great, but when you combine this level of brightness with OLED black levels, the result can be spectacular.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 f11beedd lg g6 oled tv review color

Side by side with last year's G5, the G6 can show noticeably more highlight detail in very bright 4,000-nit HDR content, assuming you can find content mastered that aggressively. Thats exactly the kind of content where the new panel structure starts to matter. Bright lights, specular highlights, reflections, fire, skies, and other high-luminance elements can have more detail and more impact rather than simply clipping or rolling off aggressively.

For context, I previously covered the LG G5 OLED, and the LG G6 feels like a meaningful step forward in the areas that matter most for HDR: brightness, highlight detail, processing refinement, and perceived impact.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 1d4e7855 lg g6 oled tv review gaming

The reason this is so compelling is that OLED already has the biggest contrast advantage: black pixels can turn completely off. When the bright parts of the image are also this intense, HDR gains a sense of depth thats unmatched. This is where the LG G6 can look genuinely special. Its not just bright for an OLED; at times, it produces some of the best HDR imagery I have seen from any display.

However, the HDR story is not flawless. The near-black shadow detail issue matters because HDR is not only about highlights. If a TV can show extremely bright highlights but loses detail in the darkest scenes, that creates a different kind of compromise. I do believe LG can fix this quickly, and I sent my findings to LG, but it is still something buyers should be aware of.

Contrast & Local Dimming

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 afb50d00 lg g6 oled tv review contrast 3

Because the G6 is an OLED, it does not use local dimming in the way a Mini LED TV does. Each pixel can emit its own light, and when a pixel needs to be black, it can turn off. That gives OLED its infinite contrast advantage and avoids the zone-based blooming problems that can happen with Mini LED displays.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 b1e9bd9f lg g6 ambient light handling scaled

That is why the G6 can look so strong in mixed-contrast scenes. Bright highlights can appear directly next to deep black areas without requiring a local dimming algorithm to decide how much of the backlight should be raised or lowered. In a dark room, that remains one of OLED's biggest strengths, and the G6 adds much more highlight intensity than older OLEDs could deliver.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 98b540d8 lg g6 oled tv review gaming 3

I still have a lot of respect for the best Mini LED TVs, and I have covered displays like the TCL X11L Mini LED that push brightness and local dimming extremely hard. But the LG G6 is playing a different game.

Clarity Finish & Ambient Light Handling

The G6's glossy finish is one of its biggest strengths. It gives the image a clean, clear look, and it helps preserve fine detail and perceived contrast better than an aggressive matte finish would. This is especially important on a TV like this because the panel is not only bright, but also capable of very high perceived contrast. A hazier screen finish would take away from that advantage.

Ambient light handling is also excellent. This is one of the reasons I think the LG G6 is such a strong alternative to QD-OLED if you watch with some light in the room. Compared to what Samsung is offering this year, the G6 gives you a clearer glossy coating and much better ambient light performance. That means if you have a little bit of light in your room, I think the G6 is going to be a better choice for many people.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 979f8503 lg g6 oled tv review contrast 5

That doesn't mean QD-OLED has no advantages. Samsung's QD-OLED models, including displays like the Samsung S95F, can have better off-angle viewing, potentially cleaner panels, and in my opinion may have fewer issues with shadow detail. But based on what I saw, I still prefer the LG G6 over what Samsung is offering so far this year because of the coating, ambient light handling, processing, and overall HDR presentation.

The new RGWB sub-pixel arrangement also helps clarity. Because the G6 now has this new sub-pixel layout, fine detail gets a noticeable bump.

That matters for normal viewing, but it matters even more if you want to use the G6 as a giant PC gaming monitor. Of course, it is still going to be quite large for most people at a desk, but the clarity improvement makes that use case more realistic than it would be on some older OLED layouts.

This entire section is one of the reasons I like the G6 so much. It does not only measure bright. It looks clean, glossy, and high-contrast in a way that makes the image feel premium. For mixed lighting rooms, this is one of the strongest OLED options I have seen.

Gaming & Motion

Gaming performance is one of the strongest parts of the LG G6, but it is also one of the areas where the current issues are the most frustrating.

On the hardware side, this TV is incredibly fast. Because it is OLED, pixel response is already extremely quick. As you can see below the LG G6 is exhibits much smoother gaming motion than LCD based displays.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 be990516 2026 tv ghosting test

Additionally, using my new latency measuring system, the G6 was technically the second-fastest TV I have ever measured.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 ec10a197 lg g6 latency scaled

With just 3.9ms of display latency at 4K 165Hz you can react lightning quick, especially when hooked up to a PC. That makes it excellent for gaming.

Motion is extremely clean, input response is very fast, and the TV has the HDMI 2.1 connectivity needed for a serious modern setup. With four HDMI 2.1 ports, you can connect multiple consoles, a gaming PC, and still have flexibility for other devices.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 2a0f7044 lg g6 oled tv review gaming 2

For PC gaming, the G6 has a very useful workaround for one of its current problems. I noticed poor HDR color in Game Optimizer, and that issue appears to be returning after it had previously been fixed on the G5. However, on PC, you can use Filmmaker Mode plus low latency mode and get the same latency as Game Optimizer at 165Hz. That means PC gamers can avoid the Game Optimizer color downgrade while still getting the fast response they want.

Console gaming is where the issue becomes more annoying. At 120Hz, I measured 5.1ms in Game Optimizer, but Filmmaker Mode went up to 13.5ms. Because Game Optimizer has worse color right now, console gamers may have to choose between lower latency and worse color or better color and higher latency. For a flagship TV at this price, that is exactly the kind of compromise I do not want to see.

Thankfully LG was able to fix diagonal dithering though even for gaming in FMM mode.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 40d9ec32 lg g6 oled tv review dithering 2

PC HDR also had a problem during my testing. The TV was not getting the correct brightness information from Windows. I do not know whether that is an LG problem, an Nvidia problem, or something else, but it is still a problem because it means PC users cannot get the maximum HDR performance out of the TV right now.

So the gaming verdict is mixed, but in a very specific way. The LG G6 is an awesome gaming TV. The speed is incredible, the latency can be excellent, and OLED response makes motion look fantastic. But the firmware and mode behavior need cleanup. Once LG fixes Game Optimizer color and PC HDR brightness reporting, this could be one of the strongest gaming TVs available. Right now, the hardware is already there. The software experience just needs to catch up.

Viewing Angles & Uniformity

The G6 is an OLED, so viewing angles are much better than what you generally get from Mini LED TVs. If you have a wider seating arrangement, that matters. People sitting off to the side should still see better contrast and color than they would on most LCD-based TVs.

That said, WOLED still has some off-angle tinting. White objects can show a bit of green or pink tint if you are significantly off angle. This is still far better than Mini LED viewing-angle behavior, but it is not the same as saying the panel is perfect from every seat in the room.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 506ed0d1 lg g6 oled tv review color 2

Uniformity is harder to fully evaluate, but QD-OLED has strengths, including better off-angle viewing and cleaner panels in general. That is why I do not want to oversell the LG G6 as flawless in this category. It is still a WOLED, and WOLED has known off-axis tint behavior.

Even so, I would still take the LG G6 over most Mini LED TVs for off-angle viewing. The lack of local dimming zones, the pixel-level contrast, and the OLED viewing angle advantage make it more flexible for real living room seating. The only thing I would watch for is that green or pink tint on bright white objects if you sit significantly off to the side.

Sound, Menu Firmware & Features

Sound quality was good with acceptable timbre, treble, midsw, & bass for a TV, but pales in comparison to the Bravia 8 II speakers, and especially full sepereate sound systems.

The more important story is firmware. My G6 unit had real issues, but they do not feel like deal breakers. I saw HDR near-black shadow detail crush, poor HDR color in Game Optimizer, and incorrect brightness information from Windows for PC HDR. These are all problems LG needs to address, but they also seem like the kind of issues that can be fixed or improved through firmware.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 7fc237f1 lg g6 oled tv review g6 vs g5

LG was able to deliver a newer firmware version to me during the review process, and I believe additional updates should be coming very soon. I had already been sitting on this review for a long time, though, and at some point I had to release it based on the unit and firmware I actually tested.

Feature-wise, the G6 is still very complete. It has Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG, four HDMI 2.1 ports, excellent gaming speed, a high-end panel, and LG's latest processing. The issue is not that the TV lacks features. The issue is that some of those features need better polish so the best picture quality and the lowest latency are not split across different modes.

Final Thoughts

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. At its best, this is one of the most impressive HDR displays I have ever tested. It is extremely bright, has infinite OLED contrast, handles ambient light very well, uses a clear glossy coating, improves clarity with its new RGB sub-pixel arrangement, and benefits from better processing for banding and dithering.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 a6fed76a lg g6 oled tv review color 3

Those improvements matter. The LG G6 does not feel like a small update over the G5. Even in its current state, I still preferred it over the G5 because the dithering fixes, improved banding, stronger HDR behavior, and new panel all make it feel like a better TV overall. When HDR content looks right on the LG G6, it can look outstanding.

The gaming performance is also legitimately impressive. This is one of the fastest TVs I have measured, and for PC gamers especially, it can work extremely well as a massive gaming display. Filmmaker Mode plus low latency mode gives PC users a path around the Game Optimizer color issue at 165Hz, and the OLED response time makes motion feel extremely clean.

But the weaknesses are real. HDR near-black shadow detail crush should not be happening on a $3,400 flagship, even if it only appears depending on content and conditions. Game Optimizer color needs to be fixed so console gamers do not have to choose between color quality and latency. PC HDR brightness reporting also needs to be addressed because PC gamers should be able to get the full HDR performance from a TV this capable.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 b9aea3b4 lg g6 oled tv review gaming 4

I don't think these issues make the G6 dead on arrival, nor do I think people should avoid it at all costs, and if someone already bought one, I would not tell them to have buyer's remorse. I still love this TV. I still think it will be one of the best TVs you can buy in 2026. But I also think LG needs to make fixes before I would call it an endgame TV or the perfect TV for everyone.

Compared to Samsung QD-OLED, the LG G6 has a clearer glossy coating and much better ambient light performance based on what I have seen. QD-OLED still has better off-angle viewing, potentially cleaner panels, and possibly fewer shadow detail concerns, but I still prefer the G6 overall so far. Additionally, for bright rooms, compared to Mini LED the G6 is not only a fierce competitor, but it far outclasses them in terms of local dimming capability. Its OLED contrast and bright HDR highlights create a different kind of image, one that can look incredibly three dimensional in all lighting conditions.

The LG G6 is an incredible OLED TV, but it is not a perfect one. That is the simplest way I can summarize it. LG G6 6d3dc6e4 lg g6 oled tv review color 4

So my final take is this: the LG G6 is one of the best OLED TVs I have tested, and one of the best HDR TVs I have seen, but it comes with caveats. It is an awesome HDR TV, an awesome gaming TV, and a huge step forward for LG OLED performance. It just needs firmware refinement before I can call it fully polished. I love the G6, but for now, it is complicated.
