We'd like to thank ProjectorScreen.com for their assistance with our projector evaluations and testing. Their yearly shoot-out, extensive selection and helpful attitude makes our life easier when we need to dig in a little more.

If you’ve been thinking about bringing movie nights or game days to a bigger screen—but don’t want to remodel your living room into a full-blown theater—BenQ’s new projectors might just hit the sweet spot. The TK705i and TK705STi are two new 4K projectors that are designed for everyday spaces. Think streaming, gaming, or watching the playoffs with friends—all without needing blackout curtains or a complex setup.

Unlike bulky projectors that scream “man cave only,” these two have a more thoughtful design. They’re boxy but sleek, with soft fabric fronts and rounded corners that won’t look out of place on a shelf or coffee table. You can also mount them to the ceiling or use BenQ’s $99 tabletop stand if you want something more flexible.

The main difference between the two models? Throw distance. The TK705i is a standard-throw projector, needing a bit more space between it and the wall. The TK705STi, on the other hand, is short-throw—so it can sit just 5.8 to 8.7 feet from the screen and still deliver a huge 100- to 150-inch image. That’s great for smaller rooms or tighter setups where space is at a premium.

Both projectors use a DLP chip from Texas Instruments, paired with pixel-shifting tech to display the full 8.3 million pixels needed for 4K resolution. The result? A sharp, detailed picture that looks great whether you’re streaming movies, watching live sports, or playing games.

BenQ TK705i with adjustable feet cater for inverted projection from high.

Brightness is also a big selling point here. Each model puts out 3,000 ANSI lumens, which is enough to watch with some lights on—or even during the day. While darker rooms still give you the best picture, these projectors are meant to handle more “everyday” lighting situations without completely washing out.

If you or your kids like gaming on a big screen, both projectors have you covered. They support 4K at 60Hz with just 5ms of input lag, which is low enough to handle most console games without noticeable delay. HDMI 2.1 and auto low latency mode (ALLM) make sure your PS5, Xbox Series X, or Switch delivers fast, responsive action without fiddling with settings.

There are also built-in game modes—like presets for RPGs and FPS games—that tweak color and contrast to better suit different genres.

You don’t need to plug in a streaming stick to start watching. Both projectors run Google TV, giving you easy access to Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube, and more right out of the box. You can also cast content wirelessly using Google Cast or Apple AirPlay, and both models support dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2.

BenQ added a bunch of features to make setup quick and painless. There’s auto focus, auto keystone correction, auto screen fit, and even a mode that adjusts the picture based on the wall color. The TK705i has optical zoom for fine-tuning, while the STi version relies on digital zoom due to its short-throw lens.

On the back, you’ll find everything you need: two HDMI ports (one with eARC for audio passthrough), USB-A for media playback, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB-C port that delivers up to 30W—handy for charging a phone or powering a streaming device. There’s also a 12V trigger port if you use motorized screens or other gear.

As for sound, there’s an 8-watt speaker system built in. It’s fine for casual use, but if you want more immersive audio, it’s easy to hook up a soundbar or AV receiver via HDMI or the audio jack.

BenQ's TK705i and TK705STi projectors placed in numerous configurations, and attached to optional stand and ceiling mounts.

Each projector comes with a Bluetooth remote that includes voice search. If you’d rather ditch the remote entirely, BenQ also has a mobile app for iOS and Android that lets you control everything from your phone.

In short, the TK705i and TK705STi are designed for anyone who wants the big-screen experience without the big-home-theater setup. Whether you’re catching up on a Netflix series, playing Mario Kart with the family, or just watching Sunday football in the living room, these projectors make it simple, and they don’t require blackout curtains or a stack of remotes to get started.

Both models are available now. The TK705i is priced at $1,799 at Amazon, and the short-throw TK705STi goes for $1,999, and should soon also become available at Amazon. You can find them on Amazon and other major retailers.
