Astell&Kern is closing out the year with two new products aimed at serious listeners: a compact USB DAC called the AK HC5, and a high-end pair of in-ear monitors called Stella, developed in collaboration with VOLK Audio and Grammy-winning mastering engineer Michael Graves.
Both products are set to debut at Potafes Akihabara in Japan and the Guangzhou Headphone Show in China this December, with global availability kicking off in January 2026.
The new AK HC5 is designed for people who want better sound from their phone, laptop, or even gaming console — without carrying around a full-size audio player. This tiny device plugs in via USB-C and brings some of Astell&Kern’s highest-end digital audio technology into a compact form factor.

At the core of the HC5 is the AK4499EX DAC chip, a high-performance component previously found only in Astell&Kern’s flagship audio players. It’s paired with the AK4191EQ digital processor, which helps separate the digital and analog signal paths to reduce unwanted noise and preserve audio detail.
To put it simply: this thing is built to make your music sound clearer, more dynamic, and more lifelike — even if you’re listening on your phone.
Borrowing design elements from the brand’s top-tier SP4000, the HC5 also includes High Driving Mode and a special horizontal OP AMP layout that help boost output power and stability. Whether you're listening at your desk or on the go, it’s designed to deliver consistent performance — even if your source device isn’t ideal.

There’s also some smart engineering when it comes to cabling. The included dual-shielded cable uses tin-plated copper conductors, aluminum film, and a braided outer layer to minimize interference from nearby electronics, which is a common issue with portable audio gear.
A few quality-of-life features round things out. The HC5 includes a 1.62-inch OLED display for playback and system info, plus a 150-step volume wheel for precise control — so you're not stuck with your phone’s volume buttons. It even comes with a protective case made by Italian brand Synt3.
Pricing and Availability:
The AK HC5 will be available starting January 2026 for $450 / £399 / €499. The HC4 is available at Amazon for $225.
Alongside the DAC, Astell&Kern is launching the Stella — a new pair of in-ear monitors created in partnership with VOLK Audio and Michael Graves, a five-time Grammy-winning mastering engineer. The result is a pair of earphones tuned with a studio-grade approach, designed to deliver clean, accurate sound from bass to treble.

Inside each earbud is a 12-driver quadbrid system, with four different types of transducers working together through a 6-way crossover and five acoustic sound tubes. The setup is engineered to keep each driver focused on a specific range, so no part of the frequency spectrum gets overloaded or lost in the mix.
Here’s how it breaks down:
On the outside, the Stella uses a 6061-T6 aluminum shell with a satin black anodized finish. It’s built for durability and comfort, with a stainless-steel faceplate and a sapphire glass panel that gives it a refined, solid feel. A central aluminum plate features the Astell&Kern and VOLK Audio logos, highlighting the partnership behind the product.

The included cable is just as premium: it uses a mix of 5N copper, 4N silver, and 24K gold conductors in a 12-strand Litz configuration, with a 4.4mm balanced termination. It’s designed to maintain signal integrity while withstanding regular use.
Pricing and Availability:
The Astell&Kern x VOLK Audio x Michael Graves Stella IEMs will also be available starting January 2026, priced at $3,900 / £3,899 / €4,400.
With these two products, Astell&Kern is offering both a source upgrade and a listening upgrade. The HC5 helps improve sound from nearly any digital device, while the Stella IEMs are built to reveal every bit of detail that gear can deliver. Whether used as a pair or on their own, both are clearly aimed at listeners who care about accuracy, quality materials, and real-world usability — not just spec sheets.
If you’re attending either Potafes Akihabara or the Guangzhou Headphone Show this December, you’ll be able to try them out in person. Otherwise, both will hit Astell&Kern retailers globally starting in January.
