As home studios continue to grow in popularity, especially among musicians, video editors, and content creators, the demand for accurate, compact studio monitors has never been greater. Edifier’s latest release, the MR5 studio monitors, enters the scene as a three-way, tri-amped speaker system aimed at users who need precise sound reproduction—whether for mixing, mastering, or detailed listening.

At $349.99 for the pair, the MR5 speakers are available now at Amazon and bring a noticeable upgrade over Edifier’s previous MR4 monitors. One of the big changes? A move from a two-way to a three-way design, which means sound is handled more precisely across bass, mids, and treble.

Each speaker includes three separate drivers: a 5-inch woofer for low-end, a 3.75-inch midrange driver, and a 1-inch silk-dome tweeter. What makes this setup stand out is that each driver gets its own dedicated Class-D amplifier—30W for bass, 15W for mids, and 10W for highs. Altogether, the system delivers 110W RMS, giving you plenty of headroom whether you're in a small home office or a mid-sized studio.

That separation between drivers allows for cleaner crossover points, which helps reduce distortion and gives a more detailed, balanced sound. The MR5’s frequency response covers everything from 46Hz up to 40kHz, which is far more than most people can actually hear—but helpful for high-resolution audio work.

The MR5 gives you flexibility when it comes to how you connect. You get balanced XLR and TRS inputs for clean connections to mixers and audio interfaces, as well as RCA and 3.5mm AUX inputs for other gear. There's even a front-facing headphone jack, which is handy for those late-night sessions when you can’t fire up the speakers.

If you prefer going wireless, Bluetooth 6.0 is built in—and it's not just your average Bluetooth. The MR5 supports LDAC streaming at up to 24-bit/96kHz and 990kbps, so you can listen to high-res audio without needing cables. It also supports multipoint pairing, so you can connect, say, your phone and your laptop at the same time and switch between them easily.

Monitors like these are designed to be neutral—which is great for editing and mixing but can be a little unforgiving with poorly recorded tracks. The good news is that you can fine-tune the MR5 to better suit your room and your ears.

On the back, there are physical controls for adjusting the high and low frequencies. You can boost or cut the highs above 10kHz and the lows around 125Hz, each by ±6dB. There’s also a Low Cut-Off switch for limiting bass when needed, plus an Acoustic Space control to help manage reflections if your speakers are near a wall. A Desktop switch helps adjust for sound bouncing off your desk surface.

And if you’d rather do it all from your phone, Edifier’s ConneX app has you covered. It gives you access to EQ settings, playback controls, and room compensation adjustments—plus a digital user manual if you want to dive deeper into features.

The MR5 is clearly made with creators in mind—whether you’re editing video, recording music, or doing sound design. Its neutral tuning and three-way setup make it well-suited for people who need to hear their audio exactly as it is, with no extra flavor added.

That said, it’s also a good option for general listening, especially if you like a more accurate sound. Just know that it won’t boost the bass or treble the way some consumer speakers do. If you’re into critical listening or want to improve your mixing workflow at home, the MR5 offers tools that can help you dial things in.

It’s compact and versatile enough to fit in most setups, whether you're in a small bedroom studio or a shared workspace. And with both pro-level I/O and Bluetooth streaming, you’re not locked into a single use case.

The Edifier MR5 is available now at Amazon for $349.99.
