NFL fans, heads up: Sony’s new XM5 headphones come wrapped in team colors—but they’re only making them for three franchises right now.

Sony’s teaming up with the NFL in a way fans can actually wear. The company just launched limited-edition versions of its popular WH-1000XM5 headphones, each customized with official NFL team colors and logos. The first batch includes the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and Houston Texans, with each version featuring the team’s logo on a sleek silver finish.

If you’re already familiar with the WH-1000XM5, you’ll know these are some of the most recognizable noise-canceling headphones out there. Now, they’ve got a bit more personality, especially if you’re a diehard fan looking to show off some team pride while blocking out the noise of everyday life (or maybe just rival fans).

Underneath the new NFL branding, it’s business as usual. These are still the WH-1000XM5 headphones Sony launched back in 2022. That means you’re getting solid active noise canceling, up to 30 hours of battery life, smart assistant support (Google and Alexa), and Sony’s Spatial Sound Personalizer if you want a more immersive experience. Voice calls? Those are covered, too, thanks to Sony’s Precise Voice Pickup tech.

Functionally, there’s no difference between these and the regular XM5s—just the addition of NFL team flair. Each pair features your team’s logo on the earcup and ships in that signature silver XM5 color.

Sony’s rolling out these limited editions on a staggered schedule:

  • Detroit Lions EditionAvailable now at Sony
  • Buffalo Bills Edition – Drops December 8, 2025
  • Houston Texans Edition – Launches December 11, 2025

All three will sell for $399.99, but Sony is running a flash sale at launch, bringing the price down to $329.99 (at least for the Lions model so far). You’ll only find them on Sony’s official site.

This headphone launch is part of a bigger partnership between Sony and the NFL. Earlier this season, Sony took over from Bose as the official headset supplier for all 32 NFL teams. Those coaching headsets use custom versions of Sony’s noise-canceling technology, designed specifically for the chaos of football stadiums.

Sony says those pro-level mics and noise filters were tested with crowd noise topping 100 decibels, all to make sure coaches can still be heard clearly. The gear also comes in one- and two-earcup versions depending on the coach’s preference, and you’ll spot Sony’s branding on the sidelines during every game.

So while the consumer version of the XM5s won’t have that same custom tuning for stadium noise, the NFL connection is more than just cosmetic—it’s part of a bigger push from Sony into the world of sports tech.

One question some folks might have is: why the XM5 and not Sony’s newer XM6? The XM6 launched earlier this year with improved noise canceling and spatial audio performance. But instead of highlighting the latest model, Sony’s stuck with the tried-and-true XM5 for this NFL edition.

There are a few possible reasons—maybe it’s about manufacturing timelines, or maybe Sony wants to give the XM5 one last spotlight before it fades from the lineup. Either way, if you were hoping for the newest tech, this isn’t quite it. But if you’re looking for headphones with a great track record (and your team’s logo), this could be worth checking out.

Right now, only three teams are part of the collection, which seems a bit limited given how many passionate fanbases are out there. There’s been no official word on whether Sony plans to expand to other franchises, but it’s not hard to imagine future waves if these initial models sell well.

And that limited nature could make them a bit more collectible, especially for fans of the Lions, Bills, or Texans. Whether this turns into a full league-wide release or stays a niche series remains to be seen.

Here’s a quick look at the rollout:

Team EditionRelease DatePrice
Detroit LionsAvailable now$399.99 ($329.99 launch deal)
Buffalo BillsDecember 8, 2025$399.99
Houston TexansDecember 11, 2025$399.99

If you’re an NFL fan looking for headphones that combine solid performance with some team pride, Sony’s new NFL-edition XM5s should be on your radar. They’re not a tech upgrade over the standard XM5s, and they’re not as advanced as the newer XM6s—but they’re still great noise-canceling headphones with some added personality.

And if you’re a Lions fan? Well, considering how the team’s been playing lately, this might be one of the best years in a long time to rock that logo on your headphones.
