Samsung has officially taken the wraps off its 2025 foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Both devices stick to the familiar foldable formula, but they come with thoughtful upgrades—like slimmer builds, brighter screens, and a heavier focus on AI—to make them more practical for everyday use.
Here’s a closer look at what’s new and different.
The Fold 7 is Samsung’s thinnest and lightest foldable yet. Weighing just 215 grams and measuring only 8.9mm thick when closed, it’s actually slimmer than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. That makes it easier to slip into a pocket or bag, while still giving you that big-screen experience when you need it.
Folded, the phone has a 6.5-inch cover screen with a new 21:9 aspect ratio, making it feel a lot more like a regular smartphone when you’re typing or scrolling. Open it up, and you get a much larger 8-inch main display, which is now 11% bigger than last year’s model. It also gets brighter—up to 2,600 nits—so visibility outdoors should be a lot better.
Whether you’re editing documents, watching videos, or juggling multiple apps, the extra screen space is built for multitasking. Samsung’s new One UI 8 interface, which comes preloaded on the Fold 7, brings in new AI features that work well with the larger display.
Despite trimming down the size, Samsung made some durability upgrades. The hinge has been redesigned with a multi-rail setup to better handle stress and reduce creasing over time. The exterior gets Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 and a tougher Armor Aluminum frame, while the inner screen is reinforced with a titanium layer and a thicker version of Samsung’s Ultra-Thin Glass.
In short, it’s lighter—but not more fragile.
The Fold 7 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip, which is custom-tuned for Samsung phones. Compared to last year, Samsung says you’ll get:
That extra power helps fuel the phone’s many AI tools. For example:
Gemini Live, Samsung’s AI assistant, now works with visual input, meaning it can “see” what’s on your screen or through your camera and help accordingly.
This is the first Fold model with a 200MP wide-angle camera, which Samsung says captures more detail and brighter images than before. There's also:
The Flip 7 is all about compact convenience, and now it’s even more functional without opening it. The new 4.1-inch FlexWindow stretches edge to edge, letting you do a lot more from the cover screen.
You can type messages, control music, check schedules, snap selfies, and even use Samsung’s AI assistant—all without flipping it open. The cover screen also supports 120Hz refresh rates and hits the same 2,600 nits of brightness, which helps when you’re outdoors.
Open it up, and you’ve got a 6.9-inch main display with the same high refresh rate and AMOLED quality.
The Flip 7 now packs the biggest battery ever in the series—4,300mAh—which Samsung says should be enough to stream an extra movie on a single charge. It weighs 188 grams and folds down to just 13.7mm thick, making it the slimmest Galaxy Flip to date.
It also supports Samsung DeX for the first time, so you can connect it to a monitor and get a more desktop-like experience if you need to get work done.
The upgraded FlexWindow isn’t just bigger—it’s more useful. You’ll find a new “Now Bar” that shows real-time app activity, notifications, and things like podcast progress or sports scores. The “Now Brief” mode gives you personalized updates throughout the day, like your commute, fitness stats, or calendar reminders.
Gemini Live is also available on the FlexWindow, so you can ask questions, plan a trip, or look up info using just your voice or the camera—again, no need to open the phone.
And for those who like to customize, you can tweak the wallpaper, clock style, widgets, and more to match your mood or outfit.
The Flip 7 includes a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide, plus AI tools to help improve your shots. Some standout features:
For those looking for a more affordable foldable, Samsung also introduced the Flip 7 FE. It has a 6.7-inch main display, a simplified cover screen, and still supports Flex Mode for hands-free selfies. It comes in black or white and keeps many of the core features, including the 50MP camera.
Both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 go up for pre-order starting July 9, with full availability beginning July 25.
