KEF has just given its popular LS50 Meta and LS50 Wireless II bookshelf speakers a fresh style update. The British audio brand is introducing two new finishes—Moss Green and Sand Shell—adding more visual variety to the LS Series without changing the sound that’s made them so well-known.

Moss Green is a rich, deep shade inspired by forest tones, while Sand Shell is a softer, warm off-white. Both come with a gold-colored Uni-Q driver in the center, giving the speakers a distinctive accent.

The LS50 story started back in 2012 with the original LS50, a passive bookshelf speaker designed for traditional hi-fi setups. In 2018, KEF followed it up with the LS50 Wireless, an active version with built-in amplification and streaming capabilities.

In 2020, both models got a second-generation update: the LS50 Meta (passive) and the LS50 Wireless II (active). They looked similar to the originals but featured KEF’s Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT), which helps cut down distortion and improve clarity, along with other engineering refinements.

Until now, the LS50 Meta was available in Carbon Black, Mineral White, Titanium Grey, and Royal Blue, while the LS50 Wireless II came in Carbon Black, Mineral White, Titanium Grey, and Crimson Red. The new Moss Green and Sand Shell options are available for both models at the same price as the existing finishes.

While the new colors may be aimed at refreshing the lineup, the core design remains unchanged. The LS50’s curved front baffle is still there—an element that’s as much about sound quality as it is about looks. This shape helps with sound dispersion from KEF’s 12th-generation Uni-Q driver, which places a 25mm aluminum dome tweeter inside a 13cm mid/bass driver for more consistent sound across the room.

The Moss Green finish offers a more organic, calming presence, while Sand Shell is a lighter, more neutral option that can blend into a range of interior styles.

The LS50 Meta and LS50 Wireless II look almost identical but work very differently.

  • LS50 Meta – A passive design that needs to be paired with an amplifier or AV receiver. It’s suited for people who want the flexibility of building their own hi-fi system.
  • LS50 Wireless II – A fully active setup with built-in amps, streaming, and wireless connectivity between speakers. It supports hi-res audio up to 24-bit/384kHz and works with formats like DSD256 and MQA.

Both use KEF’s MAT technology, which uses a complex internal structure to absorb 99% of unwanted sound from the back of the tweeter, helping keep the sound clear and detailed.

For those who go with the LS50 Wireless II, music streaming is front and center. Through the KEF Connect app, you can access Spotify (via Spotify Connect), Tidal, Amazon Music, Qobuz, Deezer, internet radio, and podcasts. The speakers also work with Apple AirPlay 2, Google Cast, and Bluetooth.

If you prefer wired sources, you can connect a TV via HDMI eARC, hook up a turntable through the analog inputs, or use optical and coaxial connections for CD players, game consoles, and more. The system is also Roon Ready for users who organize their music through Roon.

While this update is purely cosmetic, it gives buyers a couple of new ways to make the LS50 speakers fit their space. Whether you’re after the flexibility of a passive setup with the LS50 Meta or the convenience of an all-in-one streaming solution with the LS50 Wireless II, the new colors offer a fresh look for KEF’s well-established design.

The prices haven’t changed with the new finishes. In the U.S., the LS50 Meta is $1,600 per pair, and the LS50 Wireless II is $3,000 per pair. Both are available now in Moss Green and Sand Shell, along with the existing color options, through KEF’s website and authorized dealers.
