The smart home world has been talking about Matter for years, but one big piece has been missing: security cameras. That gap is finally starting to close with the launch of the Aqara Camera Hub G350, one of the first cameras built around Matter 1.5, the update that officially adds camera support to the standard.
That sounds like a big deal, and in some ways it is. But like a lot of early Matter devices, the real-world experience is a bit more complicated than the headline suggests.
So, why does this camera matter (pun intended)?

Matter launched in 2022 as a way to make smart home devices work across brands without the usual headaches. Lights, plugs, and sensors made the jump early, but cameras didn’t.
With Matter 1.5, that finally changes.
The G350 is among the first cameras to support it, meaning it’s designed to eventually work across major ecosystems like Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings without needing separate integrations for each.
There’s just one catch right now: only SmartThings currently supports Matter cameras. Everyone else is still catching up.
So while the G350 is technically future-proofed for cross-platform use, today it still relies on more traditional integrations (like HomeKit Secure Video or Alexa skills) depending on your setup.

Aqara has a habit of combining devices, and the G350 follows that playbook. It’s not just a camera, it’s also a central hub for your smart home.
Here’s what it can handle:
In practical terms, this means the G350 can act as the brain of a small smart home setup, especially if you’re already using Aqara gear.

On the hardware side, the G350 packs more than you’d expect from its small, slightly playful design (yes, the removable “ears” are purely cosmetic).
It uses a dual-lens system:
That setup allows for both room-wide monitoring and zoomed-in detail without needing multiple cameras. Add in motorized pan and tilt, and the G350 can cover an entire room with 360-degree movement. For night use, it includes infrared LEDs for low-light visibility.
Like most modern indoor cameras, the G350 leans heavily on on-device AI to cut down on unnecessary alerts.
It can recognize and respond to:
There’s also auto-tracking, which follows movement to keep subjects in frame, useful for keeping tabs on pets or activity in a room without constantly adjusting the camera manually. Two-way audio is included as well, so you can talk through the camera from your phone.
The G350 gives you a few options when it comes to storing footage:
Even without full Matter camera support across platforms yet, the G350 still works with:
That flexibility makes it usable today, even if the “Matter camera” experience is still evolving.
At $139 on Amazon, the Aqara Camera Hub G350 sits in a crowded field of indoor cameras, but it stands out because of what it represents, not just what it does.
It’s an early look at where smart home cameras are heading: fewer ecosystem lock-ins, more cross-platform compatibility, and devices that double as hubs instead of just endpoints.
The catch is timing. The hardware is ready for a Matter-driven future, but most platforms aren’t quite there yet.
For now, the G350 works best as a feature-packed indoor camera with bonus smart home capabilities—and a glimpse of what a more unified smart home might eventually look like.

Alongside the G350, Aqara also introduced the G400 wired doorbell camera, which takes a more traditional approach but still packs in a solid feature set. It offers 2K video resolution, a wide 165-degree field of view, and a 3:4 aspect ratio designed to show a full head-to-toe view of visitors at your door.
The G400 supports both standard doorbell wiring and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), giving you a more stable connection and continuous power if you want it. It can detect people and motion locally even without an internet connection, while online features expand to recognize faces, packages, animals, and vehicles.
Unlike the G350, it doesn’t support Matter, but it still works with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings, making it easy to slot into most existing smart home setups. It is available now for $119 at Amazon.
