JBL just dropped two new Bluetooth speakers aimed squarely at music lovers who want serious sound without being tied to a wall outlet. The Boombox 4 and PartyBox 720 are both available for pre-order now and will start hitting stores later this September. Whether you’re hosting a backyard barbecue or heading to the beach, these speakers are designed to bring loud, clear sound—and plenty of bass—wherever the party happens to be.

Let’s take a look at what each speaker brings to the table.

JBL Boombox 4

If you’re familiar with JBL’s Boombox series, the Boombox 4 keeps the same familiar look, but with some useful updates. First, it’s lighter than the previous model by about two pounds—a welcome change if you’re lugging it around from place to place. But even though it’s easier to carry, it actually delivers 50% more output power when running on battery, which is kind of impressive.

One of the biggest updates is a new feature called AI Sound Boost, which helps the speaker push more volume and bass without things getting muddy. It’s meant to automatically adjust the output in real-time to keep the sound balanced, even if you’re cranking it up loud.

The Boombox 4 also has a redesigned Bass Boost feature with two modes:

  • Deep Bass for that rich, low-end rumble
  • Punchy Bass if you want something tighter and more energetic

There’s even a neat visual cue—the JBL logos on the sides light up white or orange when Bass Boost is on, so you know it’s active.

Inside, the Boombox 4 ditches the old subwoofer setup for two new midrange drivers and three passive radiators, which should help deliver more consistent sound across all frequencies. And when it comes to battery life, you’re looking at up to 28 hours of playtime, or up to 34 hours if you enable the Playtime Boost mode. If the battery ever wears out over time, you can replace it yourself.

It’s also IP68-rated, which means it’s both waterproof and dustproof. So yes, you can take it to the pool or beach without worrying. And if you want to wire it up, there’s a USB-C lossless audio input. Plus, it works with Auracast, which lets you link it up wirelessly with other JBL speakers for a bigger sound.

The Boombox 4 comes in Black, Blue, or Squad camo, and it’s priced at $549.95 at Amazon. It’ll be available widely starting September 28.

JBL PartyBox 720

If the Boombox isn’t quite enough for your needs, the new PartyBox 720 might be more your speed. This thing is a beast—it’s JBL’s largest battery-powered speaker to date and puts out a massive 800 watts of power.

It’s built with dual 9-inch woofers and 30mm dome tweeters to fill large spaces with sound—JBL says it’s enough to fill a basketball court. Like the Boombox, it includes AI Sound Boost, which adjusts the sound in real time to keep things clear and punchy no matter how loud you go.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a JBL PartyBox without a light show. The 720 includes a dynamic lighting system that syncs with your music. You can choose between modes like a subtle starry effect or full-on strobe, and you can customize everything through the JBL PartyBox app.

This speaker is heavy—about 3kg more than the PartyBox 710—but JBL added wider wheels and an improved handle to make it easier to roll around.

Battery life is solid here too, with up to 15 hours of playback, plus an extra 2 hours from just a 10-minute quick charge. It runs on two removable batteries, so if you’ve got spares, you can keep the party going even longer.

The PartyBox 720 also includes USB-C and combo jack-XLR inputs, along with two dedicated XLR inputs for mics, guitars, or DJ equipment. And it’s IPX4 splash-resistant, so light rain or spilled drinks shouldn’t be a problem.

Like the Boombox, the PartyBox 720 supports Auracast, so you can wirelessly link it to other JBL speakers for a bigger setup.

It’s priced at $1,099.95, and it will be widely available starting September 21.

JBL’s latest speaker releases cover two ends of the party spectrum:

  • The Boombox 4 is a more compact, highly portable speaker with long battery life and solid output.
  • The PartyBox 720 is built for large gatherings and serious sound systems, with lights, mic inputs, and enough power to handle outdoor events.

Both offer wireless syncing, real-time sound tuning, and customizable bass options, giving you flexibility in how and where you listen. If you're planning an event—or just want something powerful for your next beach trip or backyard hang—JBL seems to have you covered this fall.
