REL Acoustics is back with a completely overhauled Serie S lineup for 2025, and whether you’re building a home theater or upgrading your music setup, there’s probably something in this new four-model range that fits the bill. The updated line includes the S/550, S/850, Carbon Special Black Label, and 212 Black Label, with prices ranging from $3,299 to $5,999.

This refresh isn’t just cosmetic. REL has made changes across the board—new drivers, improved amps, and sleeker cabinet designs. The subs are also now compatible with REL’s Airship Direct wireless system, so if you’re tired of long cable runs, there’s a cleaner setup option built in.

Here's a quick look at the four models:

REL S/550 subwoofer.

S/550 – $3,299: Starting things off is the S/550, which REL positions as the most compact option in the line. It’s designed for medium-sized rooms and more balanced systems, using a 10-inch CarbonAlloy™ driver, a 12-inch passive radiator, and a 550-watt Class D amp. Even though it’s the smallest of the group, it’s built to offer fast, controlled bass with plenty of punch for music or movies.

REL S/850 subwoofer in white color.

S/850 – $3,999: If you’ve got a bit more space to fill—or just want more low-end impact—the S/850 is the next step up. This one moves to a 12-inch driver and adds an 850-watt amp to the mix. Like the S/550, it also has a matching passive radiator. REL refers to this as the “sweet spot” in the lineup, striking a balance between size, power, and detail. It borrows some tech from REL’s higher-end Reference series, which makes it a good middle-ground option for both two-channel and theater setups.

REL Carbon Special Black Label subwoofer.

Carbon Special Black Label – $4,999: The Carbon Special Black Label stands out in the lineup with a 12-inch pure carbon fiber driver—the same material used in some of REL’s flagship designs. It’s paired with a 12-inch passive radiator and a 900-watt amplifier. The cabinet is a bit larger than the S/850’s, giving it more room to breathe, and it ships with a premium wood grille as standard (which is an upgrade option on the other models). This one’s limited to select retailers and is a good fit for listeners who want premium performance without stepping up to REL’s Reference series.

REL 212 Black Label subwoofer.

212 Black Label – $5,999: At the top of the Serie S range is the 212 Black Label, designed for large rooms and serious systems. It’s packing four 12-inch drivers—two active and two passive—for a massive amount of surface area, all powered by a 1,000-watt amp. REL built this for users who want to fill big spaces or go all-in with line array setups (think stacking multiple subs vertically for maximum effect). If you’ve got a full-blown home theater or a reference stereo system, this is the model built to keep up.

Even though the models vary in size and power, there are some common upgrades that carry across the entire line:

  • Lighter, Faster Drivers: REL is using new CarbonAlloy drivers that are designed to be more responsive while keeping distortion low.
  • Redesigned Passive Radiators: These have been tweaked for better airflow and smoother performance during intense playback moments—whether that’s a movie explosion or a fast-paced bassline.
  • New Cabinet Design: REL made the enclosures wider and lower, which helps with both stability and aesthetics. These subs are meant to blend in visually, not dominate your room.
  • Optional Wireless Setup: All four models work with REL’s Airship Direct wireless system, letting you place the subs exactly where they sound best without worrying about how to hide the cables.

You also get a choice of finish: black or white gloss for most models, with the Black Label editions offered exclusively in black. Optional handcrafted wood grilles are available on the S/550, S/850, and 212 Black Label—and come standard on the Carbon Special.

REL’s Serie S line has always been about versatility, and this latest update keeps that focus. Whether you’re listening to vinyl, streaming hi-res tracks, or dialing in your Dolby Atmos setup, the new Serie S models are designed to adapt. You can use them as standalone subs, in stereo pairs, or in line arrays for room-filling bass from floor to ceiling.

Stacking multiple units? REL includes mechanical couplers to help lock them in place for stability and performance.

The full Serie S 2025 lineup is available now through authorized REL dealers and the company’s official website. Here’s the pricing breakdown:

  • S/550 – $3,299
  • S/850 – $3,999
  • Carbon Special Black Label – $4,999
  • 212 Black Label – $5,999

If you’re upgrading from an older REL model or just getting into high-performance subwoofers, the new Serie S lineup gives you a range of choices, each with its own take on speed, depth, and integration.
