If you’ve still got a shelf full of CDs and no intention of letting them collect dust, Onkyo has something new to offer. The company just announced the C-30, a dedicated CD player joining its new Icon Series lineup. It’s a no-fuss, disc-first device made for people who still appreciate the simplicity—and sound quality—of physical media.
Priced at $349, the C-30 is aimed at folks who want high-quality playback without jumping into ultra-expensive territory. In a world where streaming dominates, it's refreshing to see a product that keeps things focused: just pop in a CD and press play.
The C-30 isn’t trying to be an all-in-one music hub. It’s designed specifically for playing CDs—standard discs, as well as CD-Rs and CD-RWs. It even supports MP3 and WMA files if you’ve burned your own compilation discs over the years. But that’s about as far as it goes in terms of features. There’s no USB input, no Bluetooth, no Wi-Fi. And that’s kind of the point.
What’s going on inside matters more here. The player uses Onkyo’s VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuit) to help clean up the digital signal by smoothing out the noise that can creep in during playback. Combined with a 24-bit/192kHz digital-to-analog converter, the goal is to get the cleanest sound possible out of your discs—whether you're listening to an old favorite or discovering a new release.
The C-30 also puts some numbers behind that performance. It boasts a 107 dB signal-to-noise ratio, which means less hiss and more of the music you actually want to hear. A precision clock helps keep timing tight, which can improve stereo imaging and overall clarity.
Physically, it’s built to stay quiet too. The front panel is made from aluminum and finished in a way that reduces vibration—something that can affect playback quality, especially with physical media. It’s not flashy, but it’s clearly been built with care.
Around the back, you’ll find Hi-Fi-grade RCA outputs, along with digital optical and coaxial connections. So whether you're connecting the C-30 to an older stereo amp or a newer DAC or AV receiver, it should fit in without issue. That flexibility will be especially appealing to users with mixed analog-digital systems.
The front panel includes a standard display showing track number and time—nothing fancy, no album art—but enough to give you basic playback info. It’s clearly designed for people who care more about how it sounds than how it looks while playing.
The C-30 is the latest addition to Onkyo’s Icon Series, which was first unveiled at CES 2025. This new line of Hi-Fi components includes the Icon A-50 integrated amplifier, Icon P-80 network preamp, and Icon M-80 power amp. Like the C-30, each piece of gear in the series sticks to a straightforward, performance-focused design—available in silver or black to match your setup.
The A-50 offers 110W of power at 8 ohms, while the M-80 ups that to 130W. The P-80 adds network streaming, Roon compatibility, and Dirac room correction to the mix. Together, they make up a modular two-channel system for users who want to build a serious audio setup one piece at a time.
While most new audio gear seems built around streaming apps and wireless connections, the C-30 stands out by sticking with physical media. There’s still a group of listeners who prefer putting on a CD and letting it play from start to finish—and this player is clearly made with them in mind.
The C-30 doesn’t try to do too much, and that’s actually part of its appeal. It focuses on playing CDs well, integrates easily into a wide range of systems, and fits neatly into the Icon Series lineup without overwhelming you with features you might not need.
Onkyo’s C-30 CD Player will be available starting in October 2025, alongside the rest of the Icon Series components.
