Sonus faber has a new floorstanding speaker on the way, and it’s the kind of product that makes you pause, stare, and start mentally rearranging your living room. It’s called the Amati Supreme, and while it’s not as wildly expensive as the company’s $750,000 flagship Suprema, it borrows some of its most impressive tech and design cues. Think of it as a “greatest hits” release — just in a slightly smaller, more accessible form factor.
Set to arrive in September 2025, the Amati Supreme is priced at $78,000 per pair. Yeah, that’s still a big number, but for the right kind of audiophile, this speaker ticks just about every box: cutting-edge performance, room-friendly tuning features, and a design that leans more “Italian supercar” than “fancy furniture.”
What makes the Amati Supreme special? For starters, it shares key parts with the ultra-high-end Suprema, including the same “Voice of Sonus faber” driver array. That’s a 38mm silk dome tweeter, a 20mm super tweeter, and the brand’s signature Camelia midrange driver — the trio responsible for delivering those sparkling highs and detailed, expressive mids that Sonus faber fans rave about.
But it’s not just about the drivers. These components are mounted in a unique chamber lined with computer-modeled cork damping — not the wine-cork kind, but specially chosen for its natural, irregular structure. According to Sonus faber, it shapes the internal acoustics in a way that enhances midrange performance while keeping things clean and natural.
Down low, the Amati Supreme uses two big 220mm woofers, tuned through the company’s Stealth Ultraflex system. Translation? You’ll get deep, powerful bass without muddying up the rest of the sound or needing to bring a separate subwoofer into the mix.
All of that is controlled by a Phase Coherent Level 3 crossover, with crossover points at 230, 300, 1800, and 5600 Hz. This ensures that everything from the deepest bass to the highest sparkle works together seamlessly.
Sonus faber knows that no two rooms sound the same — which is why the back of the Amati Supreme includes a fine-tuning system. You can dial in the mid-bass and mid-high frequencies to suit your space, whether you’re in a cozy studio or a cavernous listening room.
The speaker covers a wide frequency range — 28 Hz to 40 kHz — and with a 91 dB sensitivity, it’s efficient enough not to demand the most monstrous amplifier in the world. Still, Sonus faber recommends anywhere between 50 and 600 watts, so this isn’t a setup for your entry-level receiver. Each speaker also comes with four binding posts for bi-wiring or bi-amping, if you want to get fancy with your amp setup.
Sonus faber is usually known for its traditional wood finishes and violin-inspired looks. But the Amati Supreme takes things in a bold new direction. The cabinet is fully wrapped in a brushed matte aluminum finish — including the front — and comes in two colors: Sabbia Oro, a warm gold tone, and Terra Rossa, a bold, earthy red.
On top of each cabinet is a transparent Y-shaped window, giving you a peek at the crossover section inside — a nice little touch that adds some visual intrigue to the speaker’s clean exterior.
The cabinet still uses Sonus faber’s signature lute shape, which helps reduce internal standing waves. But make no mistake: these are big speakers. Each one stands just over 46 inches tall and weighs almost 137 pounds. And when shipped, they each come in at over 186 pounds, so you’ll probably want a second pair of hands (or a dolly) when these arrive at your door.
Of course, these aren’t for everyone. At $78,000 a pair, the Amati Supreme sits in that rarefied space reserved for serious audiophiles, collectors, and folks who just love high-end design with sonic performance to match. But what you’re getting is something that captures a lot of what makes the flagship Suprema so compelling — only in a smaller, more manageable format (and a much lower price, all things considered).
If you’ve always wanted Sonus faber’s top-tier sound but couldn’t stretch to the six-figure level, the Amati Supreme might be the model that finally gets you there.
The Amati Supreme is more than just a new speaker — it’s Sonus faber showing what happens when high-end design, flagship tech, and modern functionality meet in one sleek package. Whether it’s the cork-damped internals, the customizable rear panel, or the dramatic matte finish, this speaker is built to perform and to be seen. And while it may not wear a “Suprema” badge, it absolutely carries its DNA — just in a way that’s a little more practical, and maybe even a little more fun.
