Not everyone has the luxury of a dedicated home theater, and that’s exactly the kind of user LG seems to have in mind with the CineBeam S. This ultra short throw 4K projector is compact, easy to move, and built for everyday spaces—whether you're watching movies in your living room or streaming a show in your bedroom.

First unveiled at CES 2025, the CineBeam S is now available for pre-order in countries like the UK, Canada, and Australia, with shipments expected to start later this summer.

One of the most interesting things about the CineBeam S is just how small it is. It’s roughly the size of two DVD box sets stacked together—measuring 160 x 160 x 110 mm and weighing 1.9 kilograms. You can slide it onto a bookshelf when it’s not in use and pull it out when it’s time to watch something.

Despite that small footprint, it can throw an image as large as 100 inches diagonally. Thanks to a 0.25:1 throw ratio, it only needs to sit about 15.5 inches (39.3 cm) from a wall or screen to reach that full size. At the shortest distance—just 8.1 cm—you’ll get a 40-inch image. That means no mounting, no ceiling drilling, and no need to rearrange your living room.

Inside, the projector uses a 3-channel RGB laser light source. That’s one laser each for red, green, and blue, which allows it to cover 154% of the DCI-P3 color gamut—a spec that puts it on par with more expensive home theater gear. It also boasts a 450,000:1 contrast ratio, support for HDR10 and HLG, and a Filmmaker Mode, which disables motion smoothing and other effects for a more “as intended” viewing experience.

That said, the brightness tops out at 500 ANSI lumens, which makes it best suited for darker environments. LG does show it being used during the day, but the results will likely vary depending on how much ambient light is in the room.

If you’re projecting onto a non-white wall, there are eight wall color presets that adjust the image accordingly. And to help with setup, the CineBeam S has auto screen adjustment, keystone correction, screen scaling, and shifting tools, so you won’t need to manually line up the image.

The projector runs webOS 24, the same platform found on LG’s TVs, which means you get direct access to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV, and more, without needing a separate streaming device. There’s even a built-in internet browser for basic web use.

Wireless streaming is also covered. You can cast content using Apple AirPlay 2, MiraCast, or LG’s Screen Share feature. And if you want to connect devices directly, there’s one HDMI port with eARC and two USB-C ports, one of which supports power delivery.

Audio is handled by dual 4-watt built-in speakers that support Dolby Atmos. While that may not replace a full sound system, it should be enough for casual movie nights or streaming TV shows.

It’s worth noting that the projector does not have a built-in battery. It comes with a 65W USB-C adapter and needs to be plugged in during use.

The CineBeam S is clearly aimed at people who want a big-screen experience in a small package. Whether you live in an apartment, want a second screen for the bedroom, or just prefer a minimalist setup, it offers some flexibility that traditional projectors don’t.

However, the relatively low brightness means it might not be the best fit for bright rooms or daytime viewing. And while the built-in speakers and streaming apps are convenient, serious home theater fans might still want to pair it with an external sound system or screen.

Still, for a 4K laser projector that you can literally pick up with one hand and place a foot away from the wall, it’s one of the more compact and feature-packed options out there.

The CineBeam S is currently available for pre-order in several markets, with pricing listed at around €1,299 in Europe, £1,099 in the UK, and A$2,499 in Australia. There’s no word yet on U.S. availability or pricing.

It’s also unclear whether LG plans to offer this alongside or as a replacement for the CineBeam Q (HU710PB) in North America, which is currently priced just under $1,000 at Amazon.
