Marshall’s newest Bluetooth speaker, the Kilburn III, has arrived — and while it might look familiar, there’s a lot going on under the surface. Announced alongside the brand’s first-ever soundbar, this medium-sized portable speaker sticks to Marshall’s classic rock-inspired design while giving its internals a much-needed refresh.
So, what’s new? Let’s check it out.
It’s been seven years since the Kilburn II came out, which in speaker years feels like forever. The Kilburn III doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, but it does make some solid updates where it counts. On the outside, it’s still rocking the mini amp look — textured vinyl, metal control knobs, a sturdy strap — but inside, Marshall has overhauled the setup.
The Kilburn III now features a tri-amp system with two 2-inch full-range drivers and a 4-inch woofer, each powered by its own 30-watt Class D amp. In plain terms, that means the sound should feel clearer and more balanced, no matter where you’re standing. Marshall calls this “360° True Stereophonic Sound,” which basically promises that the audio won’t drop off or feel lopsided if you’re walking around the room or hanging out on the patio.
Is it as fancy as full-on surround sound or spatial audio systems? No. But for a portable Bluetooth speaker, it does a good job of delivering an even, wide soundstage.
Hanna Wallner, Marshall’s Product Manager said: “Kilburn III represents a ground-breaking evolution in our product line, showcasing a completely reengineered acoustic design. We’ve enhanced its visual appeal, refined usability, and extended the playtime to over 50 hours. Kilburn III is a remarkable upgrade from the Kilburn II.”
One of the most eye-catching upgrades here is the battery life. The Kilburn III offers over 50 hours of playback on a full charge — that’s double what the Kilburn II offered and much more than most portable Bluetooth speakers in the same price range.
In other words, this thing is built for all-day (and all-night) use, whether you’re hosting a backyard barbecue, heading out on a camping trip, or just don’t want to worry about charging it between uses. It also works as a power bank, so if your phone is running low on juice, you can top it up directly from the speaker.
Bluetooth 5.3 ensures smooth wireless connections, and if you want to plug in the old-fashioned way, there’s a 3.5mm AUX input as well.
At just under seven pounds, the Kilburn III is definitely portable, but it’s not something you’ll want to casually toss into your backpack. It’s better suited for carrying by its detachable, velvet-lined strap, which can even be swapped out with a guitar strap (a fun nod to Marshall’s roots).
With an IP54 rating, the speaker can handle a little dust and the occasional splash, making it a decent companion for beach trips or poolside hangouts. Just keep in mind it’s not waterproof, so you’ll want to keep it away from heavy rain or accidental drops into the pool.
One of the things people tend to like about Marshall’s speakers is how simple they are to operate. The Kilburn III sticks to that philosophy with physical controls on the top panel: knobs for bass, treble, and volume, plus buttons for playback, pairing, and an “M” button that can be customized for quick access to your favorite presets or playlists.
There’s no need to fiddle with an app or navigate through digital menus — it’s all right there at your fingertips, which makes it straightforward to use, even if you’re not super tech-savvy.
Visually, the Kilburn III doesn’t break new ground. It comes in black, cream, or a black-and-brass finish, all designed to mimic the look of Marshall’s iconic guitar amps. That’s part of the brand’s appeal — people know what to expect — but if you were hoping for a design shakeup, this isn’t it.
Still, the amp-inspired look, complete with the signature script logo and textured casing, gives it plenty of character and fits right in with Marshall’s other products.
Technical Specifications:
The Kilburn III is priced at $379.99 in the U.S., €349 in Europe, and £300 in the U.K. It’s available globally through major retailers like Amazon and directly through Marshall’s website, with shipments starting June 15, 2025.
