It follows up on the original S880DB speakers, but this time around, Edifier has reworked the internals, added LDAC Bluetooth streaming, and refined the design—all while keeping the price at $399.99.

With redesigned drivers, updated internal circuitry, and expanded wireless capabilities, the S880DB MKII is built to meet the demands of music lovers who want versatility without stepping into full hi-fi separates territory. While some conveniences like AirPlay and HDMI ARC are missing, Edifier's focus on sound quality and usability stands out.

One of the biggest changes in the MKII version is the upgraded tweeter. It’s now a 1.25-inch titanium dome, up from the original 1-inch, and it’s paired with a 25mm voice coil and neodymium magnets. What does that mean for sound? In theory, crisper highs with better detail.

The 3.75-inch mid-bass driver has been redesigned as well, aiming for a cleaner midrange and deeper bass that reaches down to 50 Hz—a respectable number for a compact bookshelf speaker. You’re not going to rattle the floors, but for everyday listening, it should offer a solid, well-balanced soundstage.

Inside, things get even more interesting. The speaker uses Texas Instruments audio chips and an XMOS XU216 processor, which helps it handle 24-bit/96kHz playback over analog and wireless connections, and up to 24-bit/192kHz through the digital inputs.
