Devialet's Phantom Ultimate Speakers Look Like Sculptures—But Could Shake the Paint Off Your Walls

Devialet’s latest wireless speaker line, the Phantom Ultimate, takes everything the original Phantom was known for and upgrades it with smarter processing and deeper sound.

Devialet is back with a new generation of its iconic all-in-one wireless speakers. If you’ve seen—or heard—the original Phantom from back in 2015, you already know these speakers don’t exactly play it safe. The new Phantom Ultimate lineup keeps that same energy but adds fresh tech under the hood, better connectivity, and more refined driver performance.

There are two models in this refresh: the Phantom Ultimate 108 dB, which is the larger and more powerful option, and the more compact Phantom Ultimate 98 dB. Both aim to deliver full-range sound in a single speaker, with options to run them solo, as a stereo pair, or as part of a whole-home setup.

Jacques Demont, Devialet’s CEO, says: “We are reaffirming our status as a luxury pioneer in audio with this new launch. We invite listeners to experience sound with unprecedented intensity, clarity, and depth, coupled with our visionary approach to design.”

Let’s start with the basics. The Phantom Ultimate 108 dB is the flagship and comes with some serious hardware. You’re looking at 1,100 watts of amplification and a frequency range that stretches from 14 Hz all the way up to 35 kHz (±6 dB). That’s a wide spread—for comparison, a typical human hearing range tops out around 20 kHz. The speaker uses a combination of newly re-engineered bass, midrange, and tweeter drivers to help keep things clear and controlled across that full range.

The Phantom Ultimate 98 dB takes a slightly smaller approach but still manages to put out 400 watts and covers a range from 18 Hz to 25 kHz. It uses a wideband co-spherical driver that’s designed to widen the soundstage—so while the cabinet is small, the sound is still intended to feel big.

Both speakers feature 32-bit / 96 kHz processing, and both have been upgraded with top-mounted touch controls for easier playback and volume adjustments.

Devialet Phantom Ultimate wireless speakers in three different colors: Deep Forest, Light Pearl, and Opéra national de Paris.

If you liked the bold look of the original Phantom, you’ll feel right at home here. The sculpted shape is still instantly recognizable, but now you can get it in a few new flavors. Deep Forest is a rich green that shifts in the light, paired with black chrome. Light Pearl has a soft matte white finish with a ceramic-style look.

And if you want something a little flashier, there’s the Opéra de Paris edition, which adds hand-applied 22-karat gold leaf—a nod to Devialet’s partnership with the Opéra national de Paris. That version starts at $2,400 for the 98 dB model and goes up to $4,300 for the 108 dB.

Devialet has packed both models with several in-house technologies it’s been refining over the past 15+ years:

  • ADH New Gen (Analog Digital Hybrid): This blends the warmth of analog amplification with the efficiency of digital. The updated version offers even better energy control and high-frequency precision, hitting up to 35 kHz on the 108 dB model.
  • SAM (Speaker Active Matching): A real-time algorithm that adapts playback to protect the speaker and improve timing and accuracy—especially useful for keeping bass tight and voices clear.
  • HBI (Heart Bass Implosion): Helps achieve those deep lows down to 14 Hz. It’s the reason these speakers can thump harder than their size might suggest.
  • AVL (Adaptive Volume Level): Adjusts volume dynamically based on what you’re listening to—say, a quiet podcast or a loud movie—so you don’t have to keep reaching for the remote.
  • NXP i.MX 8M Nano Processor: A new system-on-chip inside that handles all the audio processing and helps improve energy efficiency and responsiveness.

Connectivity also gets a boost. The Phantom Ultimate supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and a full lineup of streaming services. That includes:

  • AirPlay 2
  • Google Cast
  • Spotify Connect
  • TIDAL Connect
  • Roon Ready
  • UPnP

You can control everything through the Devialet app, which now includes listening modes like Music, Podcast, and Cinema. There’s also a six-band EQ, bass reducer, and loudness compensation for late-night sessions or tricky room acoustics. Software updates happen automatically over Wi-Fi, so you don’t have to worry about falling behind.

Devialet’s Phantom Ultimate series isn’t a complete reinvention, but rather a careful update of a speaker that already had a unique identity. With cleaner highs, deeper bass, a smarter processor, and support for just about every streaming platform out there, the new models are clearly meant for people who want hi-fi sound without traditional hi-fi gear.

Whether you go big with the 108 dB or stay compact with the 98 dB, the new Phantom Ultimate lineup is all about giving you flexibility, performance, and a visual statement piece—all in one sculptural, wireless speaker.

The Phantom Ultimate 98 dB and 108 dB model are already available for pre-order at Crutchfield. Pricing starts at $1,900 for the 98 dB model and $3,800 for the 108 dB. The gold-accented Opéra editions go for $2,400 and $4,300, respectively.

Each speaker is sold individually, so a stereo setup will double those numbers. But if you’re aiming for a sleek, wireless system that still delivers high-end performance, this could be a different take from the usual soundbar or bookshelf setup.
