
There are a million GaN chargers at this point, and most of them aren't particularly exciting. They're small black or gray bricks, they charge your stuff quickly, and that's about the end of the story. The BMX GaNsta Pixel 140W is a little different. It has a dot-matrix display built into the side that shows your charging wattage in real time. That's cool, but it immediately made me wonder whether the numbers on that little screen were actually accurate. So I tested it.
Instead of trusting the GaNsta Pixel's own display, I connected my KOWSI USB-C Tester Power Meter and independently measured the output. The numbers lined up surprisingly well. That immediately made the display a lot more interesting to me.

The little pixel display is obviously the feature that makes this charger stand out. Plug in a device and you can actually watch what it's pulling rather than simply seeing a charging icon on your phone, laptop or handheld and assuming everything is working correctly. But a wattage display isn't particularly useful if you can't trust it. That's why I broke out my KOWSI USB-C power meter. By putting a completely separate meter between the charger and the device, I could compare its measurement against what the GaNsta Pixel itself was reporting. The numbers lined up. That's probably the most important thing I tested on this charger.


And ultimately, that's where the GaNsta Pixel 140W makes the most sense for me. It's small. It's powerful. It's got enough ports that I don't need to carry a bunch of separate chargers. And while it's surprisingly heavy for its size, we're still talking about one compact charger replacing multiple power bricks. That's a trade I'll happily make.
The display is what takes it from being another GaN charger to something I actually find interesting. I review and use enough electronics that being able to glance at the side of my charger and see roughly how much power a device is pulling is genuinely useful. And because I independently checked those readings with my KOWSI meter, I know the display isn't just throwing random numbers at me. That's the part I wasn't expecting to appreciate as much as I do.
I have the 140W version of the GaNsta Pixel, which gives me enough power that this can realistically become the charger I throw into my bag instead of bringing several different bricks. There are three USB-C ports along with a USB-A port, so you've got plenty of flexibility for charging a laptop, phone, retro handheld, tablet or whatever other electronics you're traveling with. And that's really where I think something like this makes the most sense. I'm constantly dealing with electronics, and I don't want four different chargers taking up space in a bag. Having one relatively tiny brick capable of handling several devices is much more appealing.
Obviously, you're not getting 140W simultaneously out of every port. Available power gets distributed when you're charging multiple devices at once. But that's normal for a multi-port charger like this. For my use, there's more than enough power available.

The first thing that surprised me when I picked up the GaNsta Pixel wasn't the display. It was the weight. Man, this thing is heavy. Not bad heavy. It's actually the opposite. It's compact enough that you expect it to weigh almost nothing, and then you pick it up and there's this surprisingly dense little brick sitting in your hand. I like that.
Obviously, weight by itself isn't proof that electronics are well made. I'm not going to start rating chargers by throwing them on a bathroom scale. But there's something reassuring about a high-output charger feeling substantial. If this thing weighed almost nothing, I'd probably be more concerned. Instead, the GaNsta Pixel feels dense and solid without actually taking up much room. For something I'm going to toss into a travel bag with a bunch of other tech, that's a combination I really like.
Push a lot of power through a small charger and you're going to generate some heat. The GaNsta Pixel definitely gets warm during use. I noticed it pretty quickly when putting a decent load on it. But there's a big difference between warm and holy shit, should I unplug this? Mine has stayed firmly in the first category. It gets noticeably warm to the touch, but I haven't experienced anything I'd describe as excessively hot or concerning. Considering the power available from such a compact charger, that's pretty much what I expected. I wouldn't bury any high-output charger underneath a blanket while running it hard, but based on my testing, the operating temperature hasn't bothered me.
The BMX GaNsta Pixel 140W is a pretty sweet little fast charger. It's compact enough for travel, powerful enough to handle the kind of electronics I normally carry, and despite its small size, it feels surprisingly substantial in your hand. Yes, it gets warm under load. That's expected from a compact high-output charger, and mine never became what I'd consider alarmingly hot.
But the standout feature is easily that pixel display. A screen showing live charging wattage sounds like something that could easily be a gimmick. That's why I independently checked it with my KOWSI USB-C Tester Power Meter. It passed. The wattage being reported by the charger lined up with what I was seeing from my external meter. That means the display isn't just cool to look at — it's something I can actually use.
There are plenty of powerful GaN chargers out there. The GaNsta Pixel gives me something most of them don't: I can see what it's doing, and after testing it myself, I actually trust what it's telling me.
