Great sound, sleek design, and now a big discount—Bang & Olufsen’s A1 2nd Gen just became a lot more tempting.

I’ve tested a lot of Bluetooth speakers over the years—some that look amazing but sound flat, and others that sound great but end up looking like a plastic lunchbox. Every once in a while, though, something comes along that strikes a perfect balance. For me, that’s the Bang & Olufsen Beosound A1 (2nd Generation).

Right now, it’s going for $175 at Amazon, down from its usual $250 price tag, and honestly? It’s one of the very few premium portable speakers I’d still recommend even at full price. At this discount, it’s a no-brainer if you’re looking for a stylish, travel-friendly speaker that doesn’t compromise on sound.

The Beosound A1 isn’t just another wireless speaker—it’s an object of design. About the size of a hamburger bun, but way prettier, this thing feels like something you’d want to show off on your coffee table or clip to your bag. Its aluminum dome finish and leather strap give it that clean, modern Scandinavian look Bang & Olufsen is known for.

But don’t let its sleek aesthetic fool you—it’s IP67 rated, which means it’s fully dustproof and waterproof. I’ve used mine poolside, on the beach, and in the kitchen with zero issues. It’s the kind of speaker you can toss in your backpack without worrying about rain or spills, which makes it perfect for summer adventures.

Now let’s talk about sound, which, let’s be real, is where most portable speakers fall short.

The Beosound A1 2nd Gen genuinely surprised me the first time I used it. It packs a 3.5-inch woofer and 0.6-inch tweeter powered by dual 30W Class D amps. Translation? It’s got clarity, balance, and just enough bass to feel full without getting muddy.

Music sounds wide and open. Vocals are crisp. Acoustic guitar sounds natural. Even podcasts and calls sound clean thanks to its excellent microphone system (more on that in a bit). It’s one of the few Bluetooth speakers I’d actually want to listen to for hours.

You can also tweak the sound using Bang & Olufsen’s app, which features a customizable Beosonic EQ interface. Want more bass? More sparkle? Just slide the control around to your liking—it’s simple and intuitive.

Here’s something cool: the A1 has Alexa voice control built-in. It works via your phone’s internet connection, so there’s no Wi-Fi onboard, but you can still use Alexa to check the weather, control smart home gear, or skip tracks.

The built-in 3-mic array is surprisingly good too—I’ve taken calls on this speaker and people didn’t even realize I wasn’t on my phone. If you’re working from home or taking meetings on the go, this feature is a bonus.

Battery life varies depending on volume, but in my experience:

  • At low to moderate volume, you’ll get 10 to 14 hours.
  • At higher volumes, expect more like 5 to 6 hours.

It charges via USB-C, and if you’ve got a fast charger, it tops up quickly enough to not be annoying.

This isn’t a party speaker that’ll blast bass across your backyard BBQ—that’s not what the A1 is going for. It’s for people who want something:

  • Small, but premium.
  • Stylish, but functional.
  • Refined, but tough enough to take on the road.

If you’re tired of ugly plastic bricks that claim “360-degree sound” and just want something that looks and feels good every time you use it, this is it.

Let’s get to the point. $175 for the Beosound A1 (2nd Gen) is one of the best deals I’ve seen for a luxury Bluetooth speaker. At its full $250 price, it was already considered one of the best-in-class for small form factor speakers. At this price, it’s competing with more mainstream picks like the JBL Flip 7 or Bose SoundLink Flex, but it feels and sounds more refined.

If you’ve ever considered owning a Bang & Olufsen product, this is easily one of the most accessible—and satisfying—ways to get in the door. It’s a premium speaker that actually feels premium in every way.

I’ve brought the A1 2nd Gen on vacations, used it in the shower, placed it on my nightstand for white noise, and even used it as a speakerphone for work calls. It’s never let me down.

So if you’re on the fence? Don’t be. $175 for this level of design, durability, and audio performance is a steal. Whether you're gifting it or treating yourself, it’s the kind of purchase that will keep paying off every time you hit play.
