After more than a decade without a completely new design, UK-based audio company AVID is stepping back into the spotlight with the Relveo—its first all-new turntable in 12 years. Released to coincide with AVID’s 30th anniversary, the Relveo isn’t just a cosmetic refresh of older models. It’s a from-scratch rebuild aimed at serious vinyl fans who care about performance, engineering, and long-term usability.

Built by hand in Cambridgeshire, England, the Relveo brings together a mix of new mechanical features and familiar AVID principles. There’s a new suspension system, a reworked platter, an external power supply with digital control, and the option to use AVID’s own tonearm or swap in one of your choosing.

Conrad Mas, founder, owner and CEO of AVID said: “The new Relveo embodies everything AVID stands for: engineering without compromise, enduring beauty, and a profound connection to music. It distils three decades of breakthrough technologies into a single, powerful statement piece for the modern music lover.”

One of the biggest changes here is the new suspension design. Instead of sticking with its traditional setup, AVID has developed a conical suspension made from Sorbothane, a material designed to soak up vibrations—big and small. This upgrade helps the Relveo stay stable even in rooms with shaky floors, which can be a problem for turntables placed on suspended wood or older surfaces.

It also makes setup easier, especially compared to other high-end tables that can be fussy when it comes to isolation. That ease of use could appeal to anyone who’s serious about vinyl playback but doesn’t want to spend hours adjusting springs or leveling platforms.

AVID has paired the Relveo with an external power supply that uses digital signal processing (DSP) to precisely control the motor’s speed. This isn’t just about keeping the platter spinning—it’s about doing so with accuracy and consistency. Each power supply is custom-calibrated to its motor, and the large transformer inside is there to keep noise and power fluctuations from creeping into the audio.

Driving the whole thing is a high-torque synchronous motor, backed by a twin-belt system for extra stability. That extra torque isn’t just for quicker startups; it also helps keep the music tight and punchy, especially in the bass and timing.

The platter is another area where AVID has focused its attention. It’s made from a solid block of aluminum and weighted toward the edge, which adds rotational momentum and helps it stay locked at the right speed. It sits on a bearing system that uses a tungsten carbide ball and sapphire thrust point—materials chosen for durability and low friction.

Underneath it all is a rigid subchassis cast from large-grain aluminum. It holds everything in place and is coated to reduce high-frequency vibrations that could interfere with playback. The idea here is to provide a quiet, stable base so the cartridge can focus on reading the groove without interference.

The mat, meanwhile, isn’t just there to protect your records. It’s made from resin-treated felt and is designed to reflect unwanted vibration back into the system, where it can be routed away through the spindle and subchassis.

The Relveo is available in two versions: one with AVID’s own Altus V2 tonearm, and one without (for people who already have a favorite tonearm they’d prefer to use). The Altus V2 includes high-precision bearings and a unique bias adjustment system to fine-tune tracking. If you’re going with your own tonearm, AVID has kept the mount universal, so compatibility shouldn’t be an issue.
