If you’ve ever had to rewind a scene three times just to catch one line of dialogue — welcome to modern TV audio. Whisper-acting is in, background music is dramatic, and most built-in TV speakers are about as expressive as a hotel intercom.

The ZVOX AV855 steps in with a simple promise:
Let you actually hear what people are saying.

No apps. No voice assistants. No Dolby Atmos space cannons or virtual ceiling speakers.
Just clarity. Plain and simple. Buy it on Amazon!

Design & Setup: Nothing to Think About

The AV855 is refreshingly boring in the best possible way.

  • Under 2 inches tall → slides under any TV without blocking the screen.
  • Aluminum body → looks clean and sleek, not cheap.
  • Hidden display → only shows up when needed.

Setup is literally one cable.
Plug in HDMI-ARC, and your TV remote takes over volume and power. No app walkthrough, no pairing screens, no Wi-Fi login fail messages.

It’s the “I don’t want to think about this” soundbar — and honestly, that’s probably why most people will love it.

AccuVoice & SuperVoice: The Real Magic Trick

Let’s talk about what ZVOX is known for: dialogue clarity.

The AV855 gives you:

  • 10 levels of AccuVoice (boosts speech)
  • 10 levels of SuperVoice (pushes back background noise even further)

And yes — it absolutely works.

Turn it on and voices jump forward in the mix immediately.
Not louder — clearer.
Like someone wiped smudges off the audio.

If you’ve got:

  • A noisy household
  • An open living room with echo-y floors
  • A partner who keeps asking “What did they say?”

This soundbar is basically a gift from above. Buy it on Amazon!

Output Leveling: The Late-Night Lifesaver

Ever been watching a quiet scene and suddenly BOOM — commercial comes in like it’s trying to wake your neighbors? Output Leveling stops that nonsense. Volume stays consistent. Dramatic quiet moments stay watchable. No remote juggling. No heart attacks at 11:30PM. This feature alone could turn some people into ZVOX lovers.

Sound Quality: Here’s the Honest Part

Okay — so dialogue clarity is great.
But what about everything else?

Voices:

Fantastic. This is the whole reason to buy this soundbar.

Bass & Lower Mids:

Not so great.

The AV855 has very little warmth or fullness in the low-end. You’ll hear every word clearly, but voices don’t have a ton of body behind them. Explosions and action scenes come through clean — just not impactful.

And here’s the big one:

I don’t think adding a big subwoofer fixes this.
You’d need a small, fast, punchy 6–8" sub to even out the balance.
A 10" home theater sub will just drown it in bass.

Music Playback:

Honestly? Skip it.
The missing midrange is extremely noticeable on music. Songs feel thin and hollow. Vocals are clear, but nothing has weight. Buy it on Amazon!

If you:

  • Watch mostly TV
  • Don’t care about cinematic bass
  • Don’t use your soundbar to play music

→ You’re golden.

If you care about movie impact or music enjoyment?
This is not your soundbar.

Who Should Buy This

Buy the AV855 if:

  • You struggle to hear dialogue clearly
  • Someone in your home constantly says “turn it up”
  • You want simple setup and zero fuss
  • You mostly watch news, sitcoms, talk shows, dramas

Skip the AV855 if:

  • Movies need to sound big
  • You’re picky about music playback
  • You want Atmos, bass, or surround effects

This is not a general-purpose soundbar.
It is a dialogue solution.

Price & Value

  • MSRP: $369
  • Often found around $329

For the right person, it’s a night-and-day quality-of-life upgrade.
For the wrong person, it’ll feel limited.

This isn’t trying to please everyone.
It’s solving one problem incredibly well — and ignoring the rest.

Final Verdict

The ZVOX AV855 is a soundbar with a very specific mission, and it absolutely nails it:
It makes dialogue easy to hear — always, effortlessly, and without cranking the volume. But the trade-off is real. If you also want rich bass, cinematic excitement, or enjoyable music playback, this is not your soundbar. If your #1 priority is understanding what people are saying? This might be the only soundbar you should even consider. Buy it on Amazon!

My 2 cents? Recommended BUT only for Dialogue-First Viewing.
